Course Technologist

A College of Southern Idaho Course Technologist will play a key role in supporting credit and non-credit faculty in the design, development, and implementation of online, hybrid, and face-to-face courses using the Canvas Learning Management System (LMS). The technologist will collaborate with instructors to enhance course delivery, ensure accessibility, and integrate technology to improve student learning outcomes. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of Canvas, experience in instructional design, and a passion for supporting innovative teaching strategies in a diverse and inclusive educational environment. In the second year of this position, the Course Technologist will be expected to begin teaching one course per semester (fall/spring) to students (discipline based on experience/interest/education) at the College of Southern Idaho.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with faculty (both credit and non-credit) to design, develop, and optimize courses within Canvas, ensuring alignment with pedagogical best practices and student engagement.
- Collaborate with faculty (both credit and non-credit) to create and use assessment tools to determine and track the success of workshops, courses, and programs.
- Provide one-on-one and group training sessions for faculty (both credit and non-credit) on Canvas tools, features, and updates, as well as effective instructional design strategies using the learning management system.
- Assist all faculty in integrating multimedia, assessments, and external 3rd party tools into Canvas.
- Ensure that all courses comply with institutional accessibility standards (including captioning, alternative text, and other accessibility features).
- Offer ongoing technical support to faculty for course troubleshooting, updates, and Canvas-related inquiries.
- Research, evaluate, and recommend emerging instructional technologies.
- Support course migration processes to Canvas, including content transfer, adaptation, and testing.
- Collaborate with instructional designers and academic departments to create Canvas environments needed to meet student learning outcomes.
- Maintain documentation and resources for Canvas users, including tutorials, guides, and FAQs.
- Participate in professional development to stay current with LMS developments, instructional design, and technology-enhanced teaching.
- Provide a bridge between the Information Technology and Instructional Administration divisions to assist the College with integrations, implementations, permissions, and diagnostics. Be an active problem-solver interested in finding solutions to technological problems. Be a curious, active listener with the patience to solve sticky problems.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Instructional Technology, Education, or a related field (master’s preferred).
- At least 2 years of experience working with Canvas or similar Learning Management Systems in an educational setting.
- Strong understanding of instructional design principles and best practices for online learning.
- Proficiency in multimedia content development and third-party integrations.
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects with competing deadlines.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience working in a community college or higher education environment preferred.
- Certification in Canvas (Canvas Certified Educator or Canvas Admin certification).
- Understanding LMS architecture and LTI integrations
