Job Description

JOB SUMMARY:

The Superintendent for CERM will direct project activities in such a manner as to ensure accurate and timely project delivery and client satisfaction consistent with generally recognized and approved hazardous material abatement practices and principles; direct project activities in such a manner to optimize return on investment of company financial and human resources, while implementing Client Relationship Management measures to grow client engagements. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Confer with supervisory personnel, owners, contractors, or design professionals to discuss and resolve matters, such as work procedures, complaints, or project problems
  • Provide information to supervisors, co-workers, and subordinates by telephone, in written form, e-mail, or in person
  • Analyze project information and evaluate results to choose the best solution and solve problems
  • Plan, schedule, or coordinate remediation and abatement project activities to meet deadlines to include scheduling the work members of the remediation team
  • Observe, receive, and otherwise obtain information from all relevant sources
  • Prepare and submit budget estimates, progress reports, or cost tracking reports
  • Inspect or review projects to monitor compliance with building and safety codes, or other regulations
  • Inspect or review projects to monitor compliance with environmental regulations

Accounting/Budgeting Activities

  • Provide Business Group Manager with budgetary feedback in connection with pricing activities
  • Ensure that project is adequately set-up for accounting and administrative compliance
  • Actively monitor budget and ensure compliance
  • Communicate allocated hours to project personnel
  • Prepare case narrative for budget overruns for submission to accounting/ corporate personnel
  • Ensure timely submittal of subcontractor and vendor invoices to ap@cerm.com

Business Development Activities

  • Ensure that the project is adequately set-up for client relations' compliance
  • Actively maintain positive relationship with client management and field level personnel
  • Provide Business Development Group with supplemental information for confidential client profile
  • Actively seek to expand scope of work with clients
  • Provide Business Development Group with technical/industry guidance in connection with proposal activities
  • Attend Pre-proposal/Pre-construction meetings when requested
  • Provide technical and administrative support to proposal development as requested

Leadership/Management Activities

  • Accountable and responsible for all project team members (field crew) during project execution, including time management of team members
  • Accountable and responsible for all project resources including equipment and supplies
  • Proactively encourage project staff to go the extra-mile and make contributions to meet the specific needs of the client
  • Provide hands-on coaching/guidance to project personnel
  • Determine applicable project benchmark (reporting, regulations, field documentation, etc.)
  • Report field level and administrative conflicts/accomplishments to Business Group Manager

Project Execution Activities

  • Finalize Project Plan
  • Provide supplemental technical and labor support to supervisor and remediation workers as needed
  • Clarify scope of work to project personnel

Quality Assurance/ Risk Management

  • Verify and ensure that appropriate contractual documents are executed prior to mobilizing to site
  • Ensure abatement worker certifications are on project sites at all times
  • Assist Business Group Manager with developing project assurance plan to minimize risk exposure to company (peer reviews, senior approval)
  • Communicate job hazard analysis to crew members daily
  • Monitor project activities for work plan compliance
  • Report any significant risk exposures or occurrence to senior management
  • Work with Business Group Manager and Senior Management to develop mitigation strategy for documented risk exposures

Technical Activities

  • Assist with transitioning project from business development to project execution
  • Maintain annual certifications 

Required Skills

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

This is a partial listing of necessary knowledges, skills, and abilities required to perform the job successfully. It is not an exhaustive list: 

  • Knowledge of materials, methods, and the tools involved in the remediation or abatement of hazardous materials, such as asbestos, lead-based paint, mole and biohazards
  • Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, human resources modeling, leadership technique, production methods, and coordination of people and resources
  • Ability to maintain a professional environment around client’s customers

Required Experience

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • High School Diploma Required 
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in Construction Management/Remediation/Abatement of Lead and Asbestos
  • Higher education in the construction field (preferred)

 LICENSURES, CERTIFICATIONS, AND REGISTRATIONS:

  • Asbestos & Lead Superintendent Certification in Georgia and Alabama - (registration in multiple southern states a plus)

 PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must regularly lift/ move 40-50 pounds
  • Must be able to work at heights greater than 30 feet
  • Must be able to walk several miles in extreme weather conditions
  • Stand, walk, use of hand finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls
  • Reach with hands and arms
  • Talk and hear
  • Sit, climb/ balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl

 WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Regularly works in varying outside weather conditions where noise levels can be loud
  • Occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and exposed to fumes and airborne particles
