Job Description
JOB SUMMARY:
This position is responsible for performing and managing engineering design services related to water and sewer infrastructure, water/wastewater treatment, stormwater management, water quality retrofits, and/or stream restoration design. Stream and wetland restoration/mitigation experience is a plus. Tasks may include feasibility studies, design plans, construction documents, specification development and review, and permitting of water, sewer, and stormwater management facilities. This position may work on several concurrent projects.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- Prepare design concepts and develop project plans and specifications
- Conduct design analysis for projects as required
- Conduct site visits/field investigations as required
- Preparation of design documents
- Use computer programs and spread sheets for engineering analysis and presentations
- Edit word-processing documents and understand procedures for file saving, retrieving and transferring data
- Maintain project files, according to company document retention guidelines
- Assist with developing, monitoring, and maintaining project budgets and schedules, coordinating staff assignments as authorized by management
- Assist in the development of reports including gathering and coordination of data from multiple sources, analysis of data, etc.
- Development of preliminary engineering reports for wastewater collection and storage projects, including understanding of permits, land acquisition, procurement, etc.
- Respond to RFIs during planning, design, and construction on impacts of changes due to construction issues
- Assist with coordination and management of sewer assessment contractors
- Review work supervised with Senior Project Manager or Engineer prior to signing and stamping design drawings or reports
- Mentor junior staff under the direction of the Group Manager
- Proposal development
- Client management, effectively communicating with clients to develop collaborative solutions
- Discuss project results and recommendations with clients to facilitate informed decision-making
- Writing, reviewing, and providing clear, concise input to investigate, regulatory, or solutions reports
- Actively engage in business development activities for the department where marketing leads are provided to the client services group and identifying additional opportunities to expand existing scopes of work
- Responsible for successful completion of assigned projects
- Managing deliverables to scope, schedule and budgets
- Assign task(s) to other engineers or technicians
- Meet and correspond with clients to obtain direction and provide feedback
- Communicate with Project Manager or Group Manager regarding job process, status, difficulties, and administrative issues
- Perform other duties as assigned
Required Skills
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
- Knowledge of Engineering concepts, theories, and practices for the area of technical specialty
- Knowledge of wastewater systems modeling a plus
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent technical skills combined with an acumen for communication, consulting and client services
Required Experience
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field is required from an accredited university
- 7-10 years of relevant engineering experience
- Minimum 8 years of technical experience in wastewater conveyance system design, rehab and management
- Experience in client services management
Preferred:
- Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering or related field from an accredited university is a plus
- Experience in the southeast US wastewater industry
LICENSURES, CERTIFICATIONS, AND REGISTRATIONS:
- Registered PE (professional engineer) in that state of the home or branch office, a plus
- EIT (Engineer in Training), a plus
- NASSCO (National Association of Sewer Services Companies) Certification or able to obtain in one-two months after starting
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Must regularly lift/ move up to 25 pounds and infrequently lift/ move up to 50 pounds
- Must be able to walk several miles in extreme weather conditions
- Stand, walk, use of hand finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls
- Reach with hands and arms
- Talk and hear
- Sit, climb/ balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- Regularly works in varying outside weather conditions where noise levels can be loud
- Occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and exposed to fumes and airborne particles
