Job Description

 ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Perform soil, concrete and asphalt tests plus other tests as assigned and subsequently communicating test results to the client and Project Manager.
  • Check and maintain equipment as needed while performing simple repairs such as replacement of parts on a wheel barrel or pressure meter; calibration of basic field equipment.
  • Generate complete, clear, timely, and accurate testing and inspection reports, time sheets, and expense reports to be presented to either Project Manager or Business Group Manager.
  • Heavy lifting is involved.
  • Obtain information about testing requirements and locations from plans and specifications.
  • Provide good housekeeping in the field and the office.
  • Analyze and synthesize information; provide solutions along with problems to Project Manager.
  • Arrive at project site allowing ample time (up to 30 minutes) for setup and other applicable preliminary project tasks.
  • Travel, evening, night, weekend, and holiday hours may be required.
  • Manage multiple tasks and interface with other disciplines.

Accounting/ Budgeting:

  • Ascertain budgeted hours for project activities.
  • Responsible for identifying the need for additional project hours well in advance of exhausting allocated hours and submitting the appropriate information to the Project Manager

Business Development:

  • Meet and exceed client expectations by ensuring accurate, complete, and timely communication of information.
  • Visit clients, jobsites and consultant offices as needed to support project and business development needs.
  • Plays instrumental role in identifying and developing new business opportunities for the company.
  • Communicate/present potential new business opportunities or resource information to the Business Group Manager

Leadership/ Management:

  • Provide field level project leadership by mentoring, coaching, and training less experienced technician staff in the areas of testing and inspection.
  • Serves as a representative of firm at meetings, presentations and public hearings/meetings relative to assigned projects.

Project Execution:

  • Maintain equipment (inventory, maintenance, calibration) to include providing leadership on technical operations.
  • Typically handles multiple projects for multiple clients simultaneously.
  • Conduct projects research as directed by Business Group Manager

Quality Assurance/ Risk Management:

  • Monitor field activities for project assurance plan compliance.
  • Report any significant risk exposures or occurrence to Project Manager and Section Manager
  • Work with project management team to develop mitigation recommendations for documented risk.

Required Skills

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:

  • Well-versed with the symbols and terminology used in engineering civil engineering principles and practices.
  • Ability to obtain additional certifications such as American Concrete Institute (ACI), National Institute for Certification of Engineering (NICET), and/or Department of Transportation (DOT) certifications (or equivalents) in the fields of aggregate, asphalt, soil, reinforced concrete, and masonry.
  • Ability to routinely lift 40 to 50 lbs.
  • Willingness to work outdoors in varying weather conditions (Company will provide Personal Protective Equipment and inclement weather gear, as appropriate);
  • Ability to work and maneuver equipment (such as a loaded wheelbarrow) on uneven ground and around active construction site.

Required Experience

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • High School graduate or GED.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience paraprofessional engineering work

 

LICENSURES, CERTIFICATIONS, AND REGISTRATIONS:

  • International Code Council (ICC) certification in either soil, reinforced concrete, or structural masonry (at least one of the three) required.
  • Roadway Testing Technician (RTT) certification is desired OR must have the ability to obtain the certification within one year of hire date.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must regularly lift/ move up 40-50 pounds.
  • Must be able to walk several miles in extreme weather conditions.
  • Stand, walk, use of hand finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls.
  • Reach with hands and arms.
  • Talk and hear.
  • Sit, climb/ balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Regularly works in varying outside weather conditions where noise levels can be loud.
  • Occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and is exposed to fumes and airborne particles.
