JOB SUMMARY:
CERM is seeking a qualified Sustainability Specialist I. The person holding this position will report to the CERM Environmental Business Group Manager. CERM is a multi-disciplined, integrated consulting firm, that specializes in a wide range of services including engineering, survey, program management, environmental compliance, sustainability/resiliency planning, and green infrastructure design.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
The job will require the following list of duties.
- Assist with client sustainability programs and project development
- Develop, coordinate, implement and monitor climate change policies and initiatives in support of client consultations
- Coordinate with other professionals and/or government officials on sustainability policies and projects focused on waste reduction, energy reduction, water use reduction, clean air, social responsibility, electric vehicle infrastructure, and alternative fuels
- Provide technical knowledge, guidance, data, support and advice in the area of environmental sustainability, energy efficiency, waste, recycling, climate change policies and initiatives, and public health
- Prepare and provide annual reports and studies on the benefits and outcomes of sustainability programs
- Develop marketing strategies to promote client sustainability initiatives
- Advance client programs and policies to address environmental sustainability
- Participate in meetings, as necessary, with other professionals and the public
- Act as a public liaison on energy and resilience projects or other sustainability initiatives
- Complete sustainability projects, including sustainability grant writing, annual Sustainability Reports, data gathering, GHG inventory development with Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions, waste diversion analysis, and other sustainability projects
- Coordinate internal sustainability events (e.g. earth day event)
- Apply for and manage grant applications in support of client programs
- Develop Project Plans
- Gather and analyze data from various sources
- Develop concise reports as directed (with minimal supervision)
- Submit assigned project research and documentation to Project Manager
- Maintain project files
- Conduct interviews of project stakeholders and develop surveys
- Develop project information sheets
- Lead and manage meetings
- Document public and stakeholder meetings
- Effectively manage time on assigned tasks
- Perform other duties as assigned
Required Skills
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

- Ability to communicate with and coordinate various efforts with members of project teams.
- Strong presentation, communication and MS Suite skills are essential to success in this position.
- Excellent writing skills are also necessary to be successful
- Strong ability to perform research and data analysis
- Able to synthesize data and information collected for use by clients
- Strong computer skills are a plus, including but not limited to AutoCAD, Sketch-up, Adobe Suite and GIS.
- Ability to travel up to 25% of time to perform work outside of local geography.
- Ability to operate in MS TEAMS, ZOOM and other virtual collaboration tools
- Ability to work independently or with a team, as the projects require
Required Experience
MINIMUM REQUIREMENT
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Environmental Science, Sustainable Development, Planning or similar; plus,
- Minimum of three years of experience in community/urban/regional planning or aviation/transportation planning.
- A Master’s Degree is a bonus.
LICENSURES, CERTIFICATIONS, AND REGISTRATIONS (PREFERRED):
- LEED Certification
- Envision Certification
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- This is largely a sedentary role; however, some filing is required.
- Public and Client meetings may require some walking, standing and lifting items generally less than 25 lbs.
- This position would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bend or stand as necessary
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- This job operates in a professional office environment
- This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines
- This position may require some evening and/or weekend work
