JOB SUMMARY: 

Environmental Planner II

CERM is seeking a qualified Environmental Planner II to support multiple projects within the Environmental Planning Group.  The Environmental Planning Group within this multi-disciplined, integrated consulting firm, specializes in a wide range of services including roadway planning; aviation planning and master planning; city/county comprehensive planning; community engagement; redevelopment land planning; sustainability/resiliency planning; and water resource master planning.

 

The successful candidate will serve as a NEPA Specialist to ensure environmental projects are in compliance with the state and federal regulations under the Georgia Enviornmental Policy Act (GEPA) and/or National Enviornmental Policy Act (NEPA).  The candidate will: 1) plan, prepare, and monitor environmental research and evaluate potential impact of assigned projects; and 2) estimate the level of pollutants involving air, land, and water to devise mitigating measures.

 

This position requires a bachelor's degree in area of specialty or in a related area. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. Typically requires 2 to 4 years of related experience. Gains exposure to some of the complex tasks within the job function. Occasionally directed in several aspects of the work.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Identify special resources within project scope of work
  • Gather and analyze data from various sources
  • Evaluate impact to special resources
  • Develop concise reports as directed (with minimal supervision)
  • Submit assigned project research and documentation to Project Manager
  • Maintain project files
  • Conduct interviews of project stakeholders 
  • Effectively manage time on assigned tasks
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Required Skills

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

This is a partial listing of necessary knowledges, skills, and abilities required to perform the job successfully. It is not an exhaustive list:

  • Ability to communicate with and coordinate planning efforts with members of project team
  • Strong presentation, communication and MS Suite skills 
  • Excellent writing skills and computer skills
  • Strong ability to perform research and data analysis
  • Able to synthesize data and information collected for use by clients
  • Possess a working understanding of NEPA and GEPA regulations including Environmental Assessments, Categorical Exclusions, and Environmental Impact Statements
  • Commitment to learn new skills and join other teams for exposure to unique projects based on company/group needs, as different projects are awarded and project scopes change
  • Ability to travel up to 25% of time to perform work outside of local geography
  • Ability to operate in MS TEAMS, ZOOM and other virtual collaboration tools
  • Ability to work independently or with a team, as the projects require

Required Experience

MINIMUM REQUIREMENT

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Planning or Business Administration or similar
  • Minimum of three years of experience in community/urban/regional planning or aviation/transportation planning
  • A master’s degree is a plus

 

LICENSURES, CERTIFICATIONS, AND REGISTRATIONS:

  • AICP (American Institute of Certified Planners), preferred

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • This is largely a sedentary role; however, some filing is required
  • Public and Client meetings may require some walking, standing and lifting items generally less than 25 lbs
  • This position would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bend or stand as necessary

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • This job operates in a professional office environment
  • This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines
  • This position may require some evening and/or weekend work
