Job Title: Estate Gardening Specialist
(Internal Title: Assistant Horticulturist)
Position Overview The Estate Gardening Specialist supports the planning, care, and maintenance of high-quality landscapes, gardens, and specialty projects. This role provides hands-on horticultural care—including seasonal plantings and integrated pest management—while ensuring the highest standards of aesthetics, health, and safety across all assigned areas. This position is designed as a steppingstone toward leadership within horticulture and estate management.
Key Responsibilities
Horticulture & Plant Care

Maintenance: Assist with the selection, planting, pruning, and general care of trees, shrubs, perennials, and annuals.

Health Monitoring: Monitor plant health to identify pests, diseases, and nutrient deficiencies; apply Integrated Pest Management (IPM) practices, fertilizers, and soil amendments as directed.

Irrigation: Maintain irrigation systems, ensuring proper watering schedules and equipment upkeep.
Seasonal Work & Enhancements

Displays: Support seasonal planting displays and rotational flower installations.

Bed Preparation: Assist with landscape enhancements, including bed preparation, mulching, and soil conditioning.

Design: Participate in the design and layout of plantings under the direction of the Horticulturist or Production Manager.
Field Operations & Safety

Execution: Operate and maintain horticultural equipment and tools safely.

Compliance: Follow environmental best practices, safety protocols, and company standards at all times.

Seasonal Support: Assist with snow removal, storm cleanup, and other seasonal duties as required.
Collaboration & Development

Teamwork: Work closely with production managers, account managers, and teams to ensure client satisfaction; provide support to field crews when needed.

Growth: Continue developing technical knowledge and skills through training and mentorship.

Requirements & Qualifications
Education & Experience

Experience: 1–3 years of hands-on horticultural or landscape experience.

Education: Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Horticulture, Landscape Management, or a related field is preferred (or equivalent experience).

Knowledge: Proficiency in plant identification, care techniques, and sustainable landscape practices.
Operational Skills

Equipment: Ability to safely operate small equipment, tools, and vehicles.

Licensing: A valid driver’s license is required.

Attributes: Strong attention to detail, strong work ethic, and ability to work outdoors in varying conditions.
Physical Demands

Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.

Physical capability to bend, kneel, and stand for extended periods.

Comfort working in outdoor environments year-round.
