Job Title: Small Engine & Fleet Mechanic
Department: Wake Forest CGM Mechanic Shop
Reports To: Branch Manager
Job Summary
The Small Engine Fleet Mechanic is responsible for troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining the company’s landscape equipment and fleet vehicles. The primary focus of this role is ensuring that all crews have safe, reliable, and efficient equipment daily. This includes diagnosing 2- and 4-cycle engines, managing shop inventory, and performing preventive maintenance on a wide range of machinery, from handheld trimmers to skid steers.
Core Responsibilities
Diagnostics & Repair
- Small Engine Repair: Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair 2-cycle and 4-cycle engines on commercial mowers, string trimmers, blowers, edgers, and hedge trimmers to maintain operating efficiency.
Preventative Maintenance (PM)
- Perform routine oil changes, filter replacements, spark plug changes, and belt replacements.
- Sharpen blades and inspect all safety guards and devices to ensure equipment is compliant with OSHA and company standards.
Shop Management & Inventory
- Inventory Control: Monitor parts levels, organize inventory, and ensure all parts are tracked through the company's inventory system.
- Procurement: Coordinate with vendors and perform parts pickups as needed.
- Record Keeping: Maintain accurate service records for all equipment.
- Shop Maintenance: Maintain a clean, organized, and safe shop environment, including the yard and building area.
Communication & Safety
- Communicate effectively with internal managers to ensure crews have the proper equipment to perform their tasks.
- Strictly adhere to Bland Landscaping Company safety policies, including the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and proper handling of chemicals.
Seasonal Duties
- Snow Removal: Assist the company with snow removal operations and winter weather response as required during the winter months.

Qualifications & Requirements
Education & Experience

Education: High School Diploma or GED required.

Experience: Minimum of 3+ years of experience repairing small engines, outdoor power equipment, and related machinery.

Technical Knowledge: Strong knowledge of 2-cycle and 4-cycle engine diagnostics; familiarity with hydraulic systems and diesel engines is preferred.

Licensing:

Must possess a valid North Carolina Driver’s License with a clean driving record (CDL is a plus).

Must be willing to obtain a North Carolina Pesticide Applicator’s License.

Physical Demands & Working Conditions

Physical Strength: Ability to lift up to 50 lbs on a routine basis.

Mobility: Ability to bend, stoop, and stand for extended periods (continual basis).

Environment: Must be able to work in a non-climate-controlled shop environment and outdoors in all weather conditions.

Environmental Exposure: Ability to work around common environmental risks including bees, poison ivy, pollen, and thorns.

Safety & PPE: Must wear company-provided uniforms, sturdy shoes, and assigned Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including eye and ear protection. Must practice strict safety protocols with chemicals and equipment.
