Job Summary:
As a Heavy Vehicle Mechanic, you will be responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining our fleet of large trucks, ensuring they are operating safely and efficiently. You will be working on a variety of truck models, including Chevrolet 2500, Ford F250, F350, and others. This is a hands-on role that requires strong mechanical knowledge and expertise in truck systems, along with the ability to troubleshoot, repair, and perform routine maintenance.
Required Skills
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform diagnostic tests and troubleshoot issues related to engine, transmission, suspension, brake systems, and other mechanical and electrical components.
- Conduct regular preventative maintenance services to ensure the fleet is running smoothly, including oil changes, tire rotations, brake inspections, and more.
- Repair and replace defective parts such as brakes, alternators, and exhaust systems.
- Keep accurate records of repairs, maintenance, and parts used.
- Collaborate with the team to complete larger repair projects efficiently and safely.
- Communicate with management about the progress of repairs and any parts or service needs.
- Ensure all work complies with safety standards and regulatory requirements.
- Assist in maintaining shop cleanliness and organization.
- Participate in ongoing training to stay up-to-date with the latest truck technologies and repair techniques.
Required Experience
Required Qualifications:
- Proven experience working as a mechanic, particularly with large trucks (Chevrolet 2500, Ford F250, F350, etc.).
- Strong knowledge of diesel engines, electrical systems, transmissions, suspension, and brake systems.
- Ability to read and interpret repair manuals, technical diagrams, and schematics.
- Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to safety.
- Must submit to a reference and criminal background check.
- Pass a Criminal Background check.
- Valid driver’s license and a clean driving record.
- Ability to lift heavy equipment and work in a physically demanding environment.
- Comply with Bland Landscaping Company, Inc. policies and procedures.
- Wear company provided uniforms and use personal protective equipment as needed.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to operate a variety of vehicles and machinery.
- CDL may be required for certain equipment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Formal education or certifications in automotive or diesel mechanics (ASE certification is a plus).
- Experience working in a leadership or supervisory role, with aspirations for career growth.
- Familiarity with truck-specific diagnostic tools and software.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift heavy objects (up to 50 lbs.).
- Comfortable working in various weather conditions and environments.
- Ability to stand, kneel, or crouch for extended periods of time.
- Capable of working with heavy machinery in tight or challenging spaces.
