Bienvivir All-Inclusive Senior Health (“Bienvivir”) is a community-based, patient-centered, comprehensive health care delivery system that advocates and promotes quality of life, optimum independence, dignity, and choices in a nurturing environment for frail seniors. Since 1987, Bienvivir has served the frail seniors of El Paso, Texas through the provision of the Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly (“PACE”).

PACE is a unique managed care benefit for frail seniors (referred to as participants) age 55 and older who are certified by the state as needing nursing home level care and who reside in a PACE service area. PACE programs coordinate and provide comprehensive medical and support services so that participants can remain independent and stay in their homes for as long as safely possible.

BENEFITS for Full and Part-time employees who work 30 or more hours per week:

Bienvivir is currently accepting applications for the following position:

DRIVER

Under the supervision of the Transportation Supervisor, the Driver provides safe and reliable transportation and direct assistance to Bienvivir/PACE Participants between their residence, the PACE center, and medical appointments. The Driver supports Participants with mobility needs and communicates relevant Participant information in coordination with the Interdisciplinary Team (IDT).

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Participant Transportation & Assistance

1. Safely transport Bienvivir/PACE participants between their residence, the PACE center, and medical appointments.
2. Navigate assigned routes and destinations using company-issued navigation tools.
3. Follow participant-specific transportation, care, and mobility instructions provided through the Mobile Data Terminal (MDT) and the Interdisciplinary Team (IDT).
4. Physically assist participants with entering and exiting vehicles, including the use of wheelchair lifts and securement systems

Participant Care Support

  1. Support participants with mobility needs in a respectful and professional manner.
  2. Ensure participants have the required durable medical equipment (DME) when boarding and exiting the vehicle. Carry oxygen tanks in the vehicle, and if the Participant's oxygen tank is empty, exchange it for a full one. Then, set the liter flow on the regulator.
  3. Take appropriate actions (contact clinic staff) in the event of an incident/accident with a participant or vehicle.
  4. Assist with transporting medications, medical supplies, and equipment, as assigned. Verify the name of the participant, the address, and the center of attendance prior to 
    delivery of any medication to participants. Request a signature from the person who will be receiving the medication. Return undelivered medication to the pharmacy and request a signature from the person receiving the medication.
  5. Assist with participant check-in or registration at medical or specialist offices, as required.

Safety, Communication & Emergency Support

  1. Report participant concerns, condition changes, incidents, or vehicle issues to the Transportation Supervisor or appropriate clinic staff.
  2. Follow established emergency, safety, and transportation procedures.
  3. Safely assist participants with mobility needs, including lifting, pushing, pulling, and securing equipment, using proper body mechanics, assistance, and mechanical devices as required.
  4. Adhere to safe work practices, including proper body mechanics and use of mobility and safety equipment during participant transport.
  5. Maintain communication with the Bienvivir/PACE center while in the field. Respond to communications promptly without compromising participant or vehicle safety using company-issued radio or communication equipment.
  6. Complete required documentation related to incidents or observations.

Vehicle & Equipment Responsibilities

  1. Conduct daily vehicle safety inspections prior to operation.
  2. Ensure wheelchair securement systems and safety equipment are properly used by tugging on equipment and confirming all straps are firmly and securely locked down; there should not be any slack in straps when participants in wheelchairs are being transported.
  3. Maintain assigned vehicles and equipment in a clean and safe condition.
  4. Properly use and care for company-issued equipment, including communication and navigation devices.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  1. Strong attention to detail and ability to follow written and electronic instructions.
  2. Ability to navigate routes and locations accurately.
  3. Ability to communicate clearly and professionally with staff and Participants.

Schedule & Program Support

  1. Provide transportation support outside regular hours as scheduled, including evenings, weekends, holidays, or on-call assignments.
  2. Perform other related duties as assigned by supervisory staff.

QUALIFICATIONS / REQUIREMENTS:

  1. High school diploma or GED
  2. Must be at least twenty-one (21) years of age with a minimum of five (5) years of continuous driving experience.
  3. Must possess a VALID Texas driver’s license (Class C)
  4. Must be bilingual in English and Spanish, as required to effectively communicate with participants and families.
  5. Minimum one (1) year of experience working with the frail elderly preferred.
  6. Must have and maintain current CPR certification.
  7. Must meet Bienvivir/PACE driving eligibility standards, including a driving record free of serious violations. Disqualifying violations include, but are not limited to, the following:
    a. More than two (2) moving violations or vehicle accidents within a one-year period.
    b. Suspension or revocation of a driver’s license within the current year.
    c. More than two (2) “failure to appear” incidents within a one-year period.
    d. More than two (2) incidents of operating a vehicle without liability insurance within 
    a one-year period.
    e. Any incident involving driving under the influence of alcohol or a controlled 
    substance.
    f. More than one (1) at-fault accident within the past three (3) years.
    g. Use of false or fictitious vehicle registration, license plates, or driver’s license
    h. Leaving the scene of an accident.
    i. Criminal offenses involving the use of a motor vehicle, including assault or 
    homicide.
    j. Theft of a motor vehicle or related offenses.
    k. Reckless driving resulting in bodily injury or death within the past five (5) years.
    l. Negligent homicide.

  1. Understanding of and respect for the needs of older adults.
  2. Organizational and time management skills.
  3. Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities effectively.
  4. Ability to accept supervision and demonstrate sound judgment and problem-solving skills.
  5. Ability to work collaboratively and communicate effectively with staff, participants, and family members.
  6. Basic computer skills, including the ability to use electronic systems and mobile devices.
