Manager, Training Services
Ballard Spahr LLP has an excellent opportunity for a self-motivated, resourceful and highly organized individual to identify orientation and training needs and to design and deliver those services to library users and department members firm wide. The Manager of Training Services will work collaboratively with RIC (Research & Intelligence Center) staff, attorneys, paralegals and department administrators to raise awareness of, and to ensure the efficient and cost-effective use of, library resources, products and services. Under the direction of the Senior Operations Manager, the Manager of Training Services will work as part of the management team, which includes the Manager of Information Access Services and the Director.
The Manager works closely with the research team supporting client and business development information needs. As part of this team, the incumbent responds to research requests as appropriate and works with the Lead Researcher to identify both staff and customer training needs. The Manager is also responsible for recommending resources, preparing budget recommendations and documenting policies and procedures related to orientation and training.
The selected candidate will have familiarity with library and business technologies, including software and products used for communication, research and knowledge sharing (e.g., SharePoint). Excellent oral and written communication skills, including public speaking and business writing skills; excellent interpersonal skills, a strong customer service orientation; demonstrated organizational and problem-solving skills and the ability to work effectively under pressure while managing multiple priorities and deadlines is required.
We are seeking someone who has a Master's in Library Science from an ALA-accredited program, or a JD or other relevant advanced degree and experience; two plus years' experience as a leader in a fast paced professional environment with law firm experience strongly preferred. Experience designing programs, creating and presenting training materials, a thorough knowledge of research methodologies and print and electronic resources in the areas of law, and proficiency with major legal and business databases is required.
Experience working as a team leader required; management experience, including staff supervision, a strong plus.
