The Senior Financial Analyst, Asset Planning & Project Finance provides project-level financial analysis, transactional processing, and portfolio data management supporting the University's 200+ project capital portfolio. Reporting to the Assistant Director, Asset Planning & Project Finance within Operations Fiscal Analysis & Analytics (OFAA), this role is the analytical and transactional foundation of the asset planning function: executing capital funding entries and reconciliations in SAP; producing ROI, lifecycle cost, avoided-cost, and carbon impact analyses under the Assistant Director's direction; compiling and validating data for sources and uses reporting, prior-year reconciliation, and regulatory filings; and monitoring the health of Operations-controlled capital and reserve funds.

The position partners closely with the Assistant Director and interacts regularly with project managers, Budget & Planning analysts, Financial Affairs, schools, and administrative units. Level (Senior Financial Analyst or Financial Analyst) will be determined by the qualifications and experience of the selected candidate.

Required Skills

Capital Project Transaction Processing and SAP Execution

Execute accurate and timely capital funding, budget adjustments, and project cost accounting transactions in SAP and related systems including transfers, WBS elements, 908s, budget adjustments, and journal entries. Prepare account creation requests and maintain project transaction records from intake through closeout across the 200+ project portfolio. Reconcile transactional activity to project budgets and cash flow forecasts, flagging exceptions to the Assistant Director. Serve as the working-level expert on the definitive inventory of capital funding transaction types and the office responsible for each. Monitor project software systems (PM Web, CAMMs) and prepare bi-weekly reports of requested projects for subSPACE meetings. Verify funding of projects on contract signature request forms sent by project managers.

Project-Level Financial Analysis and Business Case Support

Prepare project-level ROI, payback, lifecycle cost, avoided-cost (BERDO, etc.), and carbon impact analyses under the direction of the Assistant Director, including Climate Action Plan 1.2 support. Build and maintain business case models, financial templates, and analytical tools that standardize evaluation across capital asset renewal, departmental, and opportunistic requests. Produce data-driven materials that translate project economics, financial impact, risk, and carbon analysis into clear recommendations for leadership review.

Portfolio Reporting, Reconciliation, and Institutional Data Compilation

Compile and validate project budget, forecast, and cash flow data feeding sources and uses reporting and the University capital budget and plan. Support the Operations side of prior-year reconciliation, project close-out, and balance sheet treatment. Prepare data and analyses for executive and trustee reporting under the Assistant Director's direction. Compile validated capital project and spending data for regulatory and institutional filings, including NSF surveys, Economic Impact studies, and City of Boston/IMP reporting. Compile quarterly status updates and assist with ad-hoc reporting as requested by key units supported.

Operations-Controlled Fund Monitoring and Portfolio Health Reporting

Monitor commitments, balances, and burn rates for Operations-controlled funds — including SVP/VP reserves, and emergency maintenance reserves. Track and validate other funding sources including operating funds, designated accounts, gifts, and grants. Produce recurring fund adequacy reporting and portfolio dashboards for the Assistant Director and Operations' leadership, surfacing issues requiring escalation.

Annual Planning Cycle and Capital Asset Renewal Support

Support the annual asset planning cycle, including project submission intake, quality assurance of submitted materials, application of project scoring methodologies, and compilation of portfolio recommendations for leadership review. Support the monthly Capital Asset Renewal Strategy review with data, analysis, and reporting, as needed. Assist schools, departments, and administrative units navigating project intake and business case development.

Process Documentation and Continuous Improvement

Document and maintain standard operating procedures, work instructions, and analytical templates supporting the asset planning function. Identify efficiency opportunities in recurring reporting and reconciliation work. Provide cross-coverage support to the Assistant Director on time-sensitive analytical and transactional work.
