The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, training and internal pay comparison. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
Position Type
The Payroll Analyst is a key member of the Payroll team at Boston University. Reporting to the Associate Director of Payroll Tax and Reporting, they will assist with the remittances (including but are not limited to federal, state, and local withholding taxes and union dues deductions), reconciliation, and reporting of all payroll withholdings. This role will work with the Associate Director to ensure compliance with all applicable tax laws and regulations while supporting payroll operations and responding to tax-related inquiries.
Major duties of this position include:
- Collaborate with Information Technology to implement and test system updates as they relate to taxation and serve as an active member of the yearend W2 process.
- Assist with the creation and generation of reports as they relate to union dues deductions, wages, and other ad hoc topics.
- Serve as a back- up to the Sr Payroll Tax Administrator in the evaluation of tax status of the foreign national employees.
Pay Range:
- Salary Grade 48
- Minimum $61,200, Midpoint $82,700, Maximum $104,100
- Note: Salary is based on related experience, expertise, available budget, and internal equity; new hires can expect an initial annual salary which is between the minimum and midpoint of the range above ($65,000 - $75,000).
Boston University supports a flexible work environment for authorized staff members. This position is eligible for a hybrid work arrangement (i.e. remote work up to three (3) days per week), after completion of a successful observation period.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in a related field.
- Ability to work optimally and collaboratively in a small, collegial team environment.
- 3-5 years of work experience, preferably in a university or payroll management capacity.
- Intermediate skills utilizing Excel, including complex formulas to acquire, organize, and analyze data.
- Experienced in analyzing data to determine relevant conclusions and suggest appropriate actions to management.
- Proven track record to multi-task and prioritize routine tasks and ad-hoc requests.
- Ability to demonstrate effective oral and written communication skills.
- Detail oriented, demonstrating accuracy and quality of work output.
- Self-motivated, proactive, intellectually curious.
Preferred Skills:
- Knowledge of SAP/BUworks and Microsoft Office
