The Director of Faculty Onboarding, Mentoring, and Professional Development will develop comprehensive faculty engagement initiatives and support faculty well-being, professional development, and acknowledgment across the institution and by external entities. The Director will create programs and initiatives that provide comprehensive resources, foster a supportive work environment, and celebrate faculty achievements. This role is pivotal in supporting faculty success, fostering a collaborative academic culture, and cultivating leadership capacities across all ranks. The Director will collaborate closely with academic departments, faculty governance bodies, campus offices, senior administration, and HR to enhance faculty integration and success, professional development, and leadership pipeline initiatives.

 

Essential Function #1 (40%)
Collaborating with the Assistant Provost for Faculty Development & Success to develop and support initiatives targeting faculty at the early, mid-career and senior stages. Organizing annual onboarding activities for new and early career faculty, managing targeted professional development activities related to research and scholarship, and partnering with the Institute for Excellence in Teaching and Learning (IETL) to develop pedagogy focused programming are key responsibilities.
 
Essential Function #2 (25%)
Planning and overseeing the design, implementation, and evaluation of mentoring programs for faculty including coordinating operational activities pertaining to resources, support, recruiting, education, and programming. 
 
Essential Function #3 (20%)
Developing professional and leadership development activities for faculty including creating educational opportunities for academic administrators, managing the outreach and selection process for selective funding and leadership opportunities, and working with Faculty Affairs and the Office of Research to gather and promote information regarding faculty awards and achievements. 
 
Essential Function #4 (15%)
Serving as a general support and engagement resource for faculty seeking information about relevant campus resources for their scholarship and teaching, and institutional engagement, and as a consulting resource for the Faculty Fellows. 

 


Required Skills

A Master's degree is required with a Ph.D. preferred in Higher Education Administration, Organizational Development, Human Resources, Education, or a related field; at least 5-10 years of progressive experience in higher education faculty development (e.g. onboarding, mentoring, leadership development); demonstrated success designing and managing large-scale programs in complex academic environments; relevant professional development; strong project management and communication skills.
