The primary responsibility of the Civil Rights Investigator is to conduct prompt, thorough, and impartial investigations into reports of harassment, discrimination, sexual misconduct, and retaliation against faculty, staff, affiliates, and non-affiliates at Boston University pursuant to University policy as well as state and federal law. This includes collecting information in an efficient and supportive manner, composing a clear final report detailing the information obtained, and applying logical reasoning to make findings of fact and responsibility in accordance with University standards.
In addition to formal investigations, the Investigator will facilitate alternative resolution to help prevent behaviors from reoccurring and bridge the gap between intention and impact. The Investigator will also support the development and delivery of education and prevention programs and work collaboratively with campus partners to promote the EOO mission and build trust with campus constituents.

Required Skills

Master's degree in higher education student affairs, social work, conflict resolution, counseling, JD, or a related field with three to five years of relevant professional experience. Working knowledge of Title IX, Title VII, ADA, ADEA, VAWA, FMLA, and other applicable laws, regulations and guidance as they pertain to investigation and analysis of discrimination and harassment complaints. Demonstrated ability to manage caseload of multiple complex investigations simultaneously; strong organization skills, including the ability to manage time and tasks effectively, prioritize tasks and meet deadlines. Superior oral and written communication skills. Demonstrated ability to write concise, detailed, analytical reports. Strong problem- solving and conflict resolution skills. Ability to act independently or as part of a team, and to exercise sound judgment. Ability to collaborate with multiple departments and colleagues while maintaining appropriate confidentiality. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to remain neutral and objective. Ability to handle highly sensitive and confidential information with discretion and compassion. A high level of person and professional ethics. Conflict resolution/mediation experience preferred.
