Are you passionate about water safety and ready to train the next generation of lifeguards? Join the aquatics team at Boston University’s Fitness & Recreation Center (FitRec) — a dynamic and inclusive facility that promotes health, wellness, and lifelong fitness for the BU community and beyond.

We are currently accepting applications for a Lifeguard Instructor to lead American Red Cross certification courses. In this key instructional role, you'll provide a safe, engaging, and supportive learning experience while ensuring participants are fully prepared and confident in their lifeguarding skills.

In this role, you will:

  • Facilitate American Red Cross certification courses per national standards

  • Supervise participants closely during skill practice and evaluations

  • Offer attentive, clear, and proactive feedback

  • Ensure consistency and quality in all course instruction

  • Complete administrative tasks such as developing lesson plans based on pool space, evaluating participants, and maintaining records in the Red Cross Learning Center


Required Skills

Required Certifications:
All applicants must hold the following current certifications:

  • American Red Cross Lifeguarding Instructor r.24

  • American Red Cross First Aid/CPR/AED Instructor r.21

  • American Red Cross Inclusion Resource Training Certificate

  • American Red Cross Lifeguarding (Including Deep Water) with CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer and First Aid (2024)

Pay starts at $25/hour.
