To help us drive excellence, you’ll get to:
- Provide guidance on dimensional rejects, rework, and validation of rework processes.
- Monitor process capability data (CpK and PpK).
- Support production in maintaining dimensional control and capability working with Maintenance Associates, Tooling Engineers, Weld Engineers, and other Plant staff.
- Analyze SPC and dimensional data, complete root cause analysis to identify trends and nonconformances.
- Share findings with Quality Team and/or multi-disciplinary team with corrective actions for implementation and validations.
- Provide support to Department leadership and assist with coverage needs as assigned.
- Generate and confirm quality documentation including Quality alerts, Process Change Forms (PCFs), inspection standards, and work instructions.
- Collaborate promptly with Supplier Quality Engineer by alerting dimensional trends, nonconformances, and/or validating corrective actions made by supplier.
- Occasional visits to domestic suppliers and customers as needed.
- Participate in departmental or multi-disciplinary meetings related to dimensional concerns.
- Maintain accurate dimensional, GR&R, and Calibrations records for audits and traceability per QMS requirements.
- Communicate issues, risks, and status to cross-functional teams.
- Interpret engineering drawings and apply GD&T principles.
- Define measurement methods, and tolerance interpretation within the Quality Department.
- Work with Quality Technicians for accurate CMM and GOM scanning programs and techniques to ensure accurate part layouts data.
- Review dimensional inspection reports (CMM, GOM, Datamyte, etc.) for accuracy and compliance.
- Team with Senior Dimensional Engineers and Quality Engineers for mentorship.
- Conduct gauge capability studies (GR&R) in accordance with AIAG, IATF and FORD requirements.
- Support compliance to IATF 16949 and internal Quality systems.
- Maintain MSA documentation and audit readiness. Ensure equipment and gauge calibrations are maintained and compliant.
- Continuously maintain productive relationships with multi-disciplinary teams. Adhere to all company policies, procedures, safety, and ISO 14001 requirements.
- This role is part of a 6+ Quality Team and reports to the Plant Quality Manager.
SUCCESS FACTORS:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, or related technical field (or equivalent progressive Dimensional/Quality Engineer experience) in an automotive metal assembly environment.
- 3+ years of Dimensional Engineer for an automotive metal assembly environment.
- Hands-on experience with CMM, GOM, or other 3D scanning systems.
- Knowledge of SPC, MSA, and root cause methodologies.
- Solid understanding of GD&T and dimensional inspection methods.
- Proven analytical and problem-solving skills with effective communication within a multi-disciplinary automotive mental assembly environment.
- Demonstrate abilities to drive tasks to completion.
- Advanced proficiency with MS Excel/MS PowerPoint, MS Outlook and ERP systems (QAD, SAP, PLEX).
