TOOL AND DIE TECHNICIAN


 

RESPONSIBLITIES:

  • Interpret blueprints, sketches, technical drawings, manuals, specifications, and sample parts to determine dimensions, tolerances, operational sequences, and machine/tool setup requirements.
  • Fabricate new components from prints or replicate existing parts as needed.
  • Measure, mark, and scribe metal stock in preparation for machining processes.
  • Set up and operate a variety of tool room equipment, including lathes, drill presses, Bridgeport milling machines, and surface grinders; develop proficiency in their use.
  • Polish die components by hand (bench/stone) to achieve a high-quality finish.
  • Smooth and finish both flat and contoured surfaces to ensure proper fit and assembly of components and mechanisms.
  • Confirm dimensional accuracy, alignments, and clearances throughout the production process.
  • Establish inspection criteria and use a full range of precision measuring and gauging instruments to inspect parts before, during, and after machining.
  • Perform manual operations required for the fabrication of jigs, fixtures, tools, and dies.
  • Participate in any required training or coursework to support skill development and completion of the training program.
  • Operate all machinery and perform job duties in compliance with MIOSHA regulations and company safety protocols, using required personal protective equipment (e.g., gloves, sleeves, earplugs).

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Proficient in the use of precision measurement tools, including micrometers, calipers, and scales.
  • Skilled in identifying problems, gathering and analyzing data, and drawing accurate, logical conclusions.
  • Possess 2–3 years of relevant experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and practical experience.
