Job Summary

The Dean of Students is responsible for providing leadership and coordination for student development and engagement programs across the college and coordination of these efforts within Student Affairs.  The Dean plays a crucial role in overseeing various aspects of student development, engagement, and academic success. The Dean of Students has responsibility and supervision for multiple areas including student life, fitness center, counseling services, case management, student conduct processes and appeals. The Dean of Students also serves as the college’s Deputy Title IX/EO Coordinator. The Dean assists with federal and state Civil rights compliance (including, but not limited to: Title IX/EO and Clery) and issues impacting access, student success, equity and retention. Every ACC faculty and staff member is expected to participate in the assessment process of the College, utilizing the results of assessment for continuous institutional improvement.  

The Dean of Students plays a pivotal role in fostering a supportive and inclusive college environment, ensuring students have the resources, services, and opportunities they need to succeed academically. A successful candidate demonstrates a genuine passion for education and the betterment of students’ lives and is at ease with the following:  

Transparent Leadership: transparency in decisions, policy and processes fostering student trust and engagement. 

Active Listening & Effective Communicator: genuinely understands student needs and concerns fostering a positive relationship between students and the college leadership. 

Data Driven: utilize data ensuring efforts are focused on areas that have the most impact on students' well-being and their academic success.

Required Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Student Development, Higher Education, Counseling, or related field from an accredited institution. 
  • 5-7 years of increasingly more responsible experience in a student affair, student development or related administrative position within higher education. 
  • 3+ years of demonstrated leadership skills, including supervisory and budgetary responsibilities. 
  • Ability to work effectively with students, faculty, and staff of diverse backgrounds and evidence of a commitment to creating an inclusive learning & work environment. 
  • Understanding of student development theory and ability to apply theory to practice. 
  • Experience in assessment and program development. 
  • Effective written and oral communication. 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Doctorate degree in higher education or related field. 
  • Bilingual abilities are a plus. 
  • Community college administrative experience. 
  • Enrollment management experience. 
  • Experience with Banner or related student information technologies & systems. 
  • Leadership or involvement at the system or state level. 
  • Problem solving skills including ability to find innovative solutions. 
  • Ability to work as a part of an administrative team and foster a team environment. 

Physical & Cognitive Demands

The following are some of the physical and cognitive demands commonly associated with this position.

  • Occasionally moves, positions, and transports files and office materials weighing up to 10 lbs.
  • This is largely a sedentary role. This position operates in an office environment and constantly uses a computer, and routinely uses standard office equipment including phones, copiers, etc.
  • The person in this position constantly communicates with internal and external constituents and students. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.
  • Cognitive demands include comparing, copying, computing, compiling, analyzing, coordinating, synthesizing, negotiating, communicating, instructing, and interpersonal skills.

Advertised Salary Range 

Salary range for this position is $98,593 - $110,424, commensurate with education and experience. AP 3-45 provides information regarding salary placement and adjustments. This is a full-time, FLSA-exempt position. This position has been exempted from the State Classified System.
