Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP is a leading international law firm with more than 900 lawyers in offices throughout the United States, Europe, Asia and the Middle East. We are currently seeking a Legal Project Analyst in the Client Value & Practice Management department reporting to the Director of Client Value Analytics and Competitive Intelligence.

The role can reside in the New York, Philadelphia or Washington, DC office with hybrid work capabilities and will support the firm and its practices by preparing, analyzing, and reporting on key performance metrics related to business processes, tools, and financial performance. The Analyst assists in the preparation, analysis, and delivery of value-added management reports that provide insights to support operational excellence and data-driven decisions. Additionally, the Analyst is expected to collaborate across various departments and firm practices to support, implement, and promote analytic efforts undertaken by the firm.

Key responsibilities of this position include:

Analysis and Reporting

  • Analyze and report on key financial data points, focusing on client relationships, revenue generation, write-offs reductions, and profitability.
  • Assist in the analysis and reporting related to business processes, such as the operational effectiveness of the write-off review and approval process – a key component metric of firm-wide profitability.
  • Derive insights related to the effectiveness of firm tools (e.g., attorney-facing dashboards) to maximize value and adoption.
  • Aid in the creation of standardized analysis and reporting of key performance statistics and year-over-year variance drivers (e.g., net margin analysis).
  • Collaborate in the development and production of compelling charts and dashboards to clearly illustrate financial analysis.
  • Write thoughtful communications summarizing trends, observations, and outliers.
  • Collaborate with other infrastructure teams on special projects as assigned.

Operational Excellence and Data Utilization

  • Act as a resource for colleagues and attorneys to gain a deeper understanding of business data and client financial performance, with a particular focus on matter management
  • Help promote the use of insights for operational excellence and data-driven decision-making.
  • Work closely with process owners to provide insights into opportunities and improvements.
  • Support the Director and senior team members in implementing and executing initiatives, process improvement techniques, and other systems/tools that focus on strategic growth goals.

Training and Data Integrity

  • Ensure data integrity at the client/matter level in accordance with firm mandates by working with other firm data infrastructure tools and teams.
  • Proactively train attorneys on financial dashboards and other resources.

Qualifications (Experience, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities):

  • BA or BS degree required
  • 3+ years of experience in client service-oriented roles, ideally with a background in financial analysis or a related business area
  • Experience with legal accounting software such as Aderant, a plus
  • Experience with Data Analytics. Transformation, and visualization tools such as Alteryx, Excel Power Query, Tableau, Power BI, a plus
  • SQL Knowledge is desired – writing basic queries and navigating relational databases
  • High proficiency in Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint, with the ability to quickly learn and utilize additional software and systems
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills
  • Ability to learn, understand and apply industry and firm-specific business concepts and demonstrate genuine curiosity and drive in doing so
  • Sound judgment and discretion when handling confidential and sensitive information
  • Strong communication skills, both orally and in writing
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with teams
  • Commitment to prioritizing responsiveness

The base salary range for this position in New York and Washington, DC is $90,000 to $110,000.  Additional information about benefits and rewards can be found here.
