This position will assist the men’s basketball coaching staff in day-to-day operations with the program, including but not limited to coaching, player development, recruiting, scouting, academic support, and general operations within NCAA rules, and will also direct the financial development efforts of the athletics department.
Required Education
- Bachelor’s Degree required; Master’s Degree preferred.
Required Experience
- Two to four years of previous coaching, playing, and/or teaching experience.
- Previous fundraising experience.
Primary Duties/Essential Functions
Athletic Development:

- Develop and maintain partnerships and external relationships with key business constituents.
- Generate fundraising ideas and work with head coaches to help coordinate fundraising efforts.
- Cultivate gifts-in-kind that serve the entire department and/or sports programs.
- Coordinate all athletic fundraising with the school’s development staff to ensure proper communication and procedures are in place.
- Recruit and supervise department interns and student assistants.
- Support sports information, cheerleading, SAAC, and Student Affairs in the promotion of spirit and in-game activities/advertising.
Assistant Coach:

- Assist in planning and execution of practice sessions that feature the education of student-athletes (SAs) in the development of techniques, skills, and theory of the sport.
- Attend all games, both home and away, and provide bench-coaching.
- Attend all practices in-person and assist the head coach in required team/individual skill development
- Identify and evaluate prospective student-athletes (PSAs) who are good fits for the university athletically, academically, and socially; communicate with PSAs and families; process official and unofficial visits while communicating through the completion of necessary admissions and university documents.
- Assist the head coach with student-athletes personnel meetings
- Monitor the conditioning and training of team members in conjunction with athletic trainers.
- Comprehend and operate by standards set forth in the NCAA and APU Manuals, while working cooperatively with university coaches, staff, faculty, and community members.
- Aid in education and enforcement of NCAA rules as they relate to documentation and input of information in JumpForward and the NCAA Institutional Request List (IRL).
- Aid in the discipleship and mentoring of SAs by meeting in-person with players on a regular basis.
- Attend required department meetings and NCAA rules presentations.
- Assist with team travel arrangements.
- Aid in the academic support of student athletes.
- Assist staff in fundraising, alumni relations, community outreach, and ministry opportunities.
- Assist in the supervision of team equipment.
- Assist in the transportation of the team as needed for off-campus events.

Compensation
- Grade 11: $68,640 to $72,894 is the annual salary for this role and reflects what Azusa Pacific University reasonably expects to pay for this position. Actual compensation may vary based on the qualifications, experience, and internal equity. In addition to compensation, APU offers a competitive benefits package.
