- High school diploma.
- 15 units of college coursework preferred.

Required certifications: BSIS guard card and First Aid/CPR/AED.
- Baton and tear gas certificates are highly desirable.
- Must have no criminal record.
- Must possess a current CA driver's license and a clean record for three years.
- Previous college and/or university campus safety/security/law enforcement experience preferred or equivalent on-the-job experience.
- High visibility presence on patrol or stationed at the information booth, providing a consistent and approachable presence for students, staff, and visitors, enhancing feelings of safety and security on campus.
- Regularly monitor live feeds from security cameras across campuses to detect any suspicious or unusual activity. Save video footage for internal records, which may be used for future investigations.
- Act as a point of contact for students, staff, and visitors with concerns or questions.
- Assist with identifying lost property, directions, or general safety questions, contributing to the positive image of APU.
- Patrols university property, in a vehicle, on a bicycle or on foot, to provide security and traffic control.
- Performs physical security checks of campus facilities, ensuring facilities are in use by appropriate personnel.
- Respond to emergency and non-emergency radio calls.
- Be available and ready at any point during a shift to respond to community needs.
- Observes, reports, intervenes when necessary, and identifies persons involved in suspicious activities or manners. Ensures that unauthorized persons leave the university and community.
- Enforces university policies, regulations, and municipal, state, and federal laws. Assists local law enforcement as necessary.
- Conducts thorough investigations as assigned and completes detailed reports as to those investigations.
- Participates in crime prevention programs.
- Assists Student Life and Residence Life personnel as required. Provides on-campus escorts to university students and personnel as requested.
- Verify credentials of persons on campus and prevent and grant entry where appropriate.
- Mandated Campus Security Authority under the Jeanne Clery Act.
- Performs other duties as deemed necessary under the guidance of the Executive Director of DCS via Chain of Command.
- Previous experience in a similar surveillance or security role.
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
- Basic understanding of surveillance technology and tools.
- Strong observational skills and attention to detail.
- Strong and exceptional customer service skills, interpersonal and communication skills, and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
- Ability to work shift assignments as required by the department, which could include working holidays and weekends.
- Ability to conduct crime deterrence and prevention programs.
- Knowledge of laws, regulations, methods, and techniques in the area of specialty.
- Ability to react calmly and effectively in all situations.
- Skills in the use of first aid procedures.
- Skill in building security and lock procedures.
- Skill in the use of personal computers and related software applications.
- Ability to make judgment calls on sensitive, confidential issues.
- A thorough knowledge of Business English and arithmetic; general office methods, procedures, and practices.

- Varied weather conditions are involved when engaging in outdoor activities.
- Proficient in Google Apps., Microsoft Office, Word, and Excel.
- Proficiency in or ability to learn to operate complex CCTV and surveillance equipment.
- Grade 8: $21.44 to $24.66 is the hourly compensation for this role and reflects what Azusa Pacific University reasonably expects to pay for this position. Actual compensation may vary based on the qualifications, experience, and internal equity. In addition to compensation, APU offers a competitive benefits package.
