As an Applications Support Specialist, you will be a member of the Information Technology PeopleSoft Center of Excellence (COE) team at Azusa Pacific University. This position offers a great opportunity for a recent college graduate, especially someone with relevant college projects or minor work experience, to grow a career in PeopleSoft applications under the guidance of senior team members. You will be responsible for supporting PeopleSoft applications across the university, including tasks related to security management, automation scripting, and continuous learning to stay updated on new PeopleTools, PUM updates, security-related patches, development, and creative solutions for the COE.

This role is designed for individuals passionate about technology, security, support, and development. Eagerness to contribute to the ongoing enhancement of APU's PeopleSoft ecosystem is a high priority. As part of the COE, you will collaborate with senior staff to design, implement, and automate solutions that help improve the user experience and streamline operations within PeopleSoft. Through mentoring and hands-on experience, you will be exposed to multiple facets of enterprise system management, contributing to APU’s overall technology strategy.

This position offers regular mentorship from senior team members, focusing on professional growth and skill development. It requires a proactive mindset and the ability to think creatively and efficiently to propose innovative solutions for PeopleSoft systems.
 
Required Education
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field (or equivalent work experience).
Required Experience
  • Basic knowledge of navigating PeopleSoft applications (e.g., HCM, Financials, Campus Solutions).
  • Familiarity with PeopleSoft tools like PeopleTools, Application Engine, and PeopleCode is a plus.
  • Strong understanding of relational databases (MySQL, Oracle) and proficiency in SQL scripting.
  • Experience with automation tools like Ansible, with eagerness to learn and apply automation.
  • Understanding of PeopleSoft security concepts, such as user roles, permissions, and data access.
  • Ability to troubleshoot PeopleSoft-related issues, including system errors and performance issues.
  • Exposure to the PeopleSoft patching process (PUM, security patches).
  • Familiarity with integration technologies (e.g., REST APIs, file-based integration).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a creative approach to improving PeopleSoft.
  • Proficiency in PeopleSoft development environments (e.g., App Designer, PeopleSoft Architecture).
  • Ability to collaborate with senior team members to implement system enhancements.
  • Familiarity with PeopleSoft reporting tools.
  • Knowledge of IT security practices for securing PeopleSoft environments.
Primary Duties/Essential Functions
  • Support security management tasks across APU’s PeopleSoft systems. 
  • Utilize automation tools, including Ansible, to streamline PeopleSoft processes and configurations.
  • Support issue resolution by working with senior team members on complex PeopleSoft problems.
  • Shadow senior team members to learn about new PeopleSoft releases, PUM updates, and security patches, ensuring smooth implementation across the university.
  • Assist in developing and implementing solutions to enhance PeopleSoft functionality.
  • Keep up with PeopleSoft tech and trends to keep APU competitive.
  • Help design and execute integration tasks for PeopleSoft across different departments.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to find improvements and suggest solutions.
  • Perform additional duties as needed, with an emphasis on proactive problem-solving and initiative. 
Skills

  • Troubleshooting skills: Ability to resolve PeopleSoft-related system errors and performance issues.
  • PeopleSoft patching: Understanding of PUM and security patches.
  • Integration technologies: REST APIs, file-based integration.
  • Development environments: PeopleSoft Application Designer, PeopleSoft Internet Architecture.
  • Reporting tools: BI Publisher, Query, PivotGrids, PeopleSoft Insights.
  • IT security practices: Ensuring secure PeopleSoft environments.

  • Sitting/standing for 5-6 hours daily for desk tasks and occasional mobility.
  • Routine auditory tasks, including phone communication.

  • Reading, writing notes, and computer monitor.

  • Pleasant office with comfortable temperatures with occasional remote work.
  • Occasional travel to various campus locations.
  • Multiple simultaneous conversations and transactions.
Technologies
  • PeopleSoft reporting tools and application management tools: Data Mover, Integration Broker, SQR
  • Version control tools: Git.
  • Collaboration and tracking tools: JIRA, Confluence, Help Desk incident tracking.
  • Other frameworks and tools: Docker, Kubernetes, VMWare. Proficient in Google G-Suite.
  • Experienced in team collaboration, tracking, documentation, and Slack.
  • Passionate about learning and applying new technologies.
Compensation
  • Grade 10: $25.94 to $29.83 is the hourly compensation for this role and reflects what Azusa Pacific University reasonably expects to pay for this position. Actual compensation may vary based on the qualifications, experience, and internal equity. In addition to compensation, APU offers a competitive benefits package.
