Accommodation Specialist (Part-Time) - Accessibility and Disability Resources

Working under the supervision and direction of the Director of Accessibility and Disability Resources (ADR), the Accommodation Specialist will coordinate support for all programs at the Office of Accessibility and Disability Resources including the utilization of assistive technologies, and other specialized disability accommodations for undergraduate, graduate and professional students using disability services at all APU campuses, including its 8 regional campuses. The Accommodation Specialist will work collaboratively with the ADR staff to enrich ADR’s programs and services with a high level of service to students.
Required Education:
- Bachelor’s degree.
- Master’s degree in college counseling, assistive technology, vocational rehabilitation, or other closely related field is preferred.
Required Experience:
- Two years prior work experience in a collegiate academic center.
- Prior work experience with data collection, databases, and reporting.
- Experience working in educational settings.
- Experience with diverse populations.
- Exposure to various forms of assistive technology.
- Successful experience in providing student support services, to graduate, undergraduate, and professional college students and people of diverse backgrounds.
Primary Duties/Essential Functions:
- Collects applications and documentation needed to process disability accommodation requests and maintains confidential student records.
- Determines temporary accommodations for students with disabilities e.g., mental health concerns, concussions, mobility impairments, etc.
- Provides information about ADR services to prospective students, parents, faculty, and other stakeholders.
- Contribute to the innovation of ADR to provide services tailored to the needs of undergraduate, graduate, and professional students.
- Serves as a liaison and advocate for students both within APU and with outside service agencies.
- Coordinate logistics and establish timelines for services from outside agencies such as ASL interpreters, or captioning services.
- Works directly with faculty to ensure access to 3rd party service providers within the classroom environment campuses, as needed, to support students.
- Partner with ADR staff to provide guidance on disability-related issues across campus (e.g., faculty workshops, tabling events, disability awareness week, etc.).
- Compiles data on academic accommodations, number of students, disability categories, and other functions of ADR.
- Coordinates approved notetaker accommodations and educational assistants, including identifying, hiring, securing, supervising, and training student workers to serve as notetakers and educational assistants.
- Aids in facilitating the use of assistive technology (AT), adaptive software, and other related duties such as training students on the use of AT and keeping records of assigned AT to individual students.
- Provides administrative assistance to ADR professional staff (e.g., making appointments for students, faculty, and ADR staff, sending follow-up information to students and faculty, etc.)
- Responsible for managing ADR email. Routes emails accordingly and responds to inquiries from students, faculty, and other stakeholders.
- Manages ADR main phone line and routes calls accordingly.
- Makes purchases with the approval of the ADR Director and processes reconciliations.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Skills:
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage details and follow through.
- Must be collaborative and an effective team member and team builder.
- Knowledge of a variety of computer system(s) supporting student services (i.e. Canvas, PeopleSoft, Google Apps)

- Requires repetitive motions and sitting at a computer keyboard.
- Hearing and speaking on the telephone.
- Meetings may require walking and/or driving to various University locations.
- Ability to pull, push, bend, grasp, reach, and lift up to 20 lbs.
Visual Demands:
- Computer monitor and reading.
Environment:
- Pleasant office, comfortable temperatures.
Technologies:
- Proficient in Google Apps., Microsoft Office, Word, and Excel.
- Familiar with assistive technology software such as Kurzweil, JAWS, etc. preferred.
Compensation:
- Grade 7: $19.49 to $22.41 is the hourly compensation for this role and reflects what Azusa Pacific University reasonably expects to pay for this position. Actual compensation may vary based on the qualifications, experience, and internal equity. In addition to compensation, APU offers a competitive benefits package.
