Reporting to the Associate Vice President of Human Resources, the Employee Engagement and Training Specialist’s focus will be on employee engagement, training, recognition, and communication; coordinating professional development and employee engagement initiatives; delivering exceptional customer service (via phone, in-person, email) to employees and job applicants; managing communication from and about HR to internal and external audiences; and providing administrative support to the HR team.
Required Education
- Bachelor’s degree in human resources, business, or related field.
Required Experience
- Three to five years of general office experience; experience and/or certification in human resources preferred.
- Experience coordinating, designing, and/or delivering business/training presentations.
- Experience in the development of content in a variety of formats (e.g., websites, newsletters, flyers).
Primary Duties/Essential Functions
- Coordinates activities and tools pertaining to assessing and advancing the APU employee experience, including employee engagement surveys and exit surveys.
- Coordinates HR’s employee recognition programs, including the annual employee recognition event and issuance of awards.
- Supports the HR department by answering incoming calls and properly directing them to the proper party.
- Greets walk-in visitors to the HR office as needed, answering questions as able and/or directing them to the appropriate individual within HR.
- Provides excellent customer service to employees with questions, concerns, or needs for HR service.
- Maintains professionalism of the HR office reception area, interfacing with campus constituencies in a friendly and professional manner.
- Creates, gathers, and edits content for, and publishes APU’s Engage! employee newsletter.
- Maintains, updates, and develops content for the HR website and other platforms as needed.
- Coordinates office outreach and engagement efforts proactively.
- Tracks status of APU staff performance evaluations and communicates with employees and supervisors as needed related to forms and processes.
- Manages university-wide compliance training modules for workplace harassment and discrimination prevention and FERPA, including communication, tracking, technical support for employees, and vendor relations.
- Assists with the development and delivery of training materials as needed.
- Coordinates other HR-related training, including scheduling, room set-up, and communication.
- Organizes APU’s RideShare programs, including facilitating monthly incentives with Payroll, hours earned with Timekeeping, and permit agreements/carpool sticker distribution for carpool requests.
- The primary resource for the annual AQMD surveys that help to keep APU certified to meet federal and state clean air standards.
- Maintains the inventory and ordering for all HR office supplies, office equipment, and print needs.
- Coordinates the university’s bereavement process, including ordering and distribution.
- Coordinates the tracking and approval of invoices within the HR office.
- Works cross-functionally with other HR functions, including HR Business Partners, compensation, benefits, talent acquisition, and student employment.
- Regular, punctual attendance as required by the supervisor based on department needs.
- Supports other special projects and duties as assigned by HR leadership.

- Ability to lift up to 20 lbs occasionally.

- Pleasant office, comfortable temperatures.
Technologies
- Proficient in Google Apps., Microsoft Office, Word, and Excel.
- Ability to quickly learn and adapt to new systems.
Compensation
- Grade 11: $28.53 to $32.81 is the hourly compensation for this role and reflects what Azusa Pacific University reasonably expects to pay for this position. Actual compensation may vary based on the qualifications, experience, and internal equity. In addition to compensation, APU offers a competitive benefits package.
