Preaching Lab Coordinator and Pastor-Mentor (Part-time) - Center for Vocational Ministry

The APU Center for Vocational Ministry seeks to identify students with preaching gifts who wish to clarify their calling and develop their giftedness for compelling preaching.  This involves identifying APU undergraduate students who have a sense of calling into ministry vocations.  The Preaching Lab Coordinator and Pastor-Mentor, with strong organizational, relational, and mentoring skills, will be involved in this process with current APU students.  This person reports to the Assistant Director of The Christian Workers Initiative in the APU Center for Vocational Ministry.  The Preaching Lab for APU students will be designed and implemented by the collaboration of the CVM team, and the person in this position will will be on the front lines of organizing and implementing this program.
 
This is a part time (10 hours per week), 10 month/year position. The continuation of this position is dependent upon the continuation of the grant funding.  This position is not benefit-eligible.
 
Required Education
  • Graduate professional ministry degree completed or in progress.
 
Required Experience
  • 5-10 years in Professional church and/or parachurch ministry (preferred); experience in preaching; experience in mentoring college and graduate students; passion for and service in the local church; prior/current experience with APU preferred but not essential.
 
Primary Duties/Essential Functions
Examples of Duties:
  • Active role in the development of the Preaching Lab.
  • Organize and implement Preaching Lab plan.
  • Engage in intentional mentoring relationships with identified potential ministry candidates.
  • Identify additional potential candidates for the Preaching Lab.
  • Interact with APU students.
  • Lead students through curriculum provided by CVM team.
  • Participate in some staff meetings and wider CVM meetings as requested.
  • Participate in Faculty Staff Training Workshops.
  • Participate in Preaching Lab events as needed.
  • With the Assistant Director, Identify key partners for preaching opportunities for students.
 
Skills
  • Strong relational and mentoring skills in various venues and formats; teaching, preaching, influencing gifts; self-starter; initiator of mentor relationships.
 
Mental Demands
  • Passion for students, vision and commitment to help intentionally develop the spiritual climate of the campus.  Ability to understand and work cooperatively with employees.  In agreement with the purpose and mission of Azusa Pacific University in providing a Christian based higher education for its students.
 
Physical Demands
  • Intermittent standing, sitting, and walking.  Repetitive finger and wrist motions with computer usage.  Hearing and speaking demands.  Ability to lift, pull, grasp, bend to lower file drawers and reach to top of file cabinet.  Able to conduct business and attend meetings at other campus locations.   Able to lift up to 20 lbs occasionally.  
Visual Demands
  • Computer monitor and reading.
Environment
  • Immersed in student community and culture; office-based for confidential communication.
Technologies
  • Proficient in Google Apps., Microsoft Office, Word, and Excel.

Compensation

  • Grade 8: $21.44 to $24.66 is the hourly compensation for this role and reflects what Azusa Pacific University reasonably expects to pay for this position. Actual compensation may vary based on the qualifications, experience, and internal equity. In addition to compensation, APU offers a competitive benefits package
