The Transformational Training Pathways for Hispanic Pastors is a grant-funded initiative that collaboratively works with Latin American Bible Institute (LABI) and Life Pacific University (LPU) to meet the needs of Hispanic churches and pastors in Southern California by providing theological education for Spanish-speaking students. This position will play a critical role in the grant initiative to increase access to education for Pathways Scholars.

The Pathways Program Coordinator (PC) - This part-time (20-29 hrs/wk) grant-funded position will provide support with the academic advising, counseling and mentoring for students who will be matriculating into the program at APU with the expectation to move into a higher-level and associated academic program. The PC will mentor and advise students in the certificate programming migrating to associate and bachelor’s program. Also, PC will provide support with the transition from LPU to APU’s doctoral program and from LABI to APU’s master’s programming.

 

Required Education

      Bachelor’s degree in religion, education, counseling, psychology, or related field (Master’s degree preferred).

 

Required Experience

      Previous experience in academic advising, counseling, or student support services, preferred.

      Bi-lingual in Spanish and English preferred.

 

Primary Duties/Essential Functions

      Provide comprehensive academic advising, counseling, and mentoring to students enrolling into the Hispanic program at Azusa Pacific Seminary.

      Mentor and guide students as they progress through their academic paths, offering support and resources to facilitate their success.

      Assist students in navigating the transition from LPU (Lower Program University) to APU’s doctoral program, ensuring a seamless integration into higher-level academic pursuits.

      Facilitate the transition of students from LABI (Lower Academic Institution) to APU’s master’s programs, offering guidance and support every step of the way.

      Collaborate with faculty, staff, and other stakeholders to develop and implement initiatives aimed at enhancing student success and retention.

      Maintain accurate records of student progress and interactions, utilizing data to inform decision-making and improve program effectiveness.

      Stay current on trends and best practices in academic advising and student support services, continuously seeking opportunities for professional development and growth.

      Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to effectively engage and connect with students from diverse backgrounds.

      Demonstrated ability to provide empathetic and personalized support to students, fostering a sense of belonging and empowerment.

      Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities simultaneously.

      Willing to learn academic policies, procedures, and resources, with a commitment to promoting student success and retention.

 

Mental Demands

  •         In agreement with the purpose and goals of Azusa Pacific University in providing a Christian-based higher education for its students.

 

Physical Demands

      Intermittent sitting and standing. 

      Requires keyboard and 10-key work.

      Extensive telephone usage. 

      Ability to lift, pull, grasp, bend and reach. 

      Ability to lift up to 20 lbs.

 

Visual Demands

  •       Computer monitor and reading.

 

Environment

  •          Pleasant office, comfortable temperatures. 

      Multiple conversations and transactions occurring simultaneously.

 

Technologies

      Proficient in Google Apps., Microsoft Office, Word, and Excel.

 

Compensation

  • Grade 7: $19.49 to $22.41 is the hourly compensation for this role and reflects what Azusa Pacific University reasonably expects to pay for this position. Actual compensation may vary based on the qualifications, experience, and internal equity. In addition to compensation, APU offers a competitive benefits package
