Description:

This is a 11-month clinical faculty position in Azusa Pacific University's Department of Educational Leadership which includes a doctoral program with the goal of preparing P-12 educators identified as promising leaders with the theoretical and practical understanding to lead amidst the changing environment of the nation's P-12 schools. We are seeking a creative and collaborative colleague who is a current (or recent) superintendent to enhance P-12 program partnerships, collaborate with traditional faculty on curricular matters, represent the programs to external partners, and serve the program in traditional faculty roles (teaching, dissertation committee membership, presentations, etc.). Programs in the Department of Educational Leadership are accredited by the Western Senior College and University Commission (WSCUC).

 

Specialization:

Expertise in one of the following curricular areas: leadership and change; equity and access; ethics; educational policy; or strategic planning. 

 

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will serve in a combination of the following opportunities: teach a graduate or doctoral course; represent the department's programs to prospective students; present professional development sessions; serve as guest speaker or classroom lecturer; mentor students; serve on dissertation committees, and maintain a professional faculty agenda (research or clinical partnership). In addition, all faculty are expected to contribute to ongoing program improvement efforts and participate in committee service at the program, School and/or University level, as well as to the broader professional community. 

 

Level: Assistant professor 

 

Qualifications

  • A demonstrated, vibrant Christian faith compatible with the mission of Azusa Pacific University (Faculty members are required to sign a "Statement of Faith," available at http://www.apu.edu/about/believe and to adhere to the policies outlined in the Faculty Handbook. The University has an expectation of and provides support for faith integration across the curriculum) 
  • Earned doctorate in education from a regionally accredited college or university 

 

Experience:

  • Superintendent experience in the public school sector is highly preferred, though deputy superintendents may also be considered
  • Hold current California administrative credential or be California-credential eligible
  • Prior graduate teaching and dissertation experience preferred
  • Demonstration of collegial teamwork and desire to collaborate with colleagues to meet program and department needs 
  • An established record of success in serving ethnically diverse populations
  • Experience with online teaching preferred 

 

Workload

  • Full-time faculty 11-month contract at 1/4 time (average of 12 hours per week). 
  • The typical workload includes teaching, dissertation committee work, program representation, service, advising, and recruitment.

 

Mental Demands:

  • Ability to integrate Christian values in all aspects. 
  • Ability to engage in critical thinking and exercise independent judgment. 
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and manage confidential information.
  • Self starter, ability to communicate effectively in written and oral form.

 

Hire Date: August 2024

 

Compensation:

$16,640 to $28,228.50 is the annual salary for this role and reflects what Azusa Pacific University reasonably expects to pay for this position. Actual compensation may vary based on the qualifications, experience, and internal equity. In addition to compensation, APU offers a competitive benefits package.
