Xavier University’s Division of Student Affairs seeks qualified applicants for the new position of Assistant Director for Commuter & Off-Campus Living. This newly created position is a twelve-month, exempt role that supports student belonging and success by providing programming and support for traditional commuter students and students living off-campus in the local neighborhood. The ideal candidate enjoys working directly with college students who do not live in a traditional on-campus residence hall environment. The ability to develop new initiatives and ideas in response to student and community needs is essential to this role. This position reports to the Associate Director for Leadership and Transition Programs in the Office of Student Involvement.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead commuter student programming and services, with the goal of increasing the retention, success, and engagement of traditional commuter students.
  • Provide supervision for a team of 10 Commuter Peer Mentors who oversee the daily operations of the Commuter Lounge, commuter events, social media and website management, and the Commuter Activities Board.
  • Facilitate educational programming and support for off-campus students, particularly as students transition from on-campus residential living to off-campus apartment and house-style living.
  • Serve as the University Liaison for neighborhood relationships and support students in developing positive neighborhood relationships.

The Assistant Director is as a member of the Office of Student Involvement, Gallagher Student Center and Commuter Services team and engages in departmental programming and decision-making. In addition to supporting commuter and off-campus students, the department facilitates campus activities and leadership programs, supports and oversees 150+ student organizations, oversees new student orientation and transition programs, advises the Student Government Association, manages the Gallagher Student Center, and coordinates processes and policies for many available campus resources.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Master’s Degree in Higher Education Administration or related field.
  • 1-3 years of experience in college student affairs, student development, or related role. Graduate assistantship experience that is directly related to the role can be considered as eligible experience.
  • Written and oral communication proficiency.
  • Prior experience supervising college-age students.
  • Experience with event planning and budget management.
  • Valid driver’s license.

This position will start on July 1, 2024.
