Category Manager: Indirect Procurement

Job Summary


As part of the Indirect Procurement organization, provide strategic leadership in support of the Finance, Legal and Real Estate organizations spanning categories potentially inclusive of Travel, Financial Services, Card Services, Energy, Facilities, Security, Fleet, Marketing, Legal Services, Office Supplies and Business Consulting. This role will work closely with business stakeholders to understand business priorities and develop/execute category strategies to reduce total cost of ownership by leveraging supplier innovation, complex deal negotiation skills, sourcing tools and processes.




  • Build relationships in order to partner with key stakeholders and senior leadership to understand strategic direction and business objectives and priorities in order to develop and execute effective sourcing strategies


  • Achieve business requirements while effectively capturing value (i.e. cost improvements, risk mitigation, cost avoidance, process improvements, supplier consolidation)


  • Overall responsibility for developing, communicating and implementing procurement strategies for multiple Business categories potentially inclusive of Travel, Financial Services, Card Services, Energy, Facilities, Security, Fleet, Marketing, Legal Services, Office Supplies and Business Consulting


  • Develop and sustain strategic relationships with key suppliers through best in class Supplier Management practices


  • Evaluate supplier core competencies and competitive positioning using industry cost models and benchmarking analysis tools


  • In-depth understanding of best-in-class procurement practices including extensive end-to-end experience in Sourcing processes, Negotiations, Supplier Analysis, Industry Analysis, TCO modeling, Supplier Management and RFx expertise


  • Negotiate appropriate supplier agreements with Key Performance Indicators (KPI), Service Level Agreements (SLA) and Continuous Improvement efficiencies







Required Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, IT, Supply Chain Management, Finance, Business Administration, Marketing or equivalent


  • 5+ years of Supplier Management experience with Operations, Capital Equipment, Plant Equipment, MRO or Marketing categories


  • Strategic thought process with ability to challenge status quo 


  • Exemplary negotiation skills in a robust and large corporate procurement environment


  • Demonstrated ability to build strategic partnerships across multiple organizations and with vendors at the highest levels


  • Exemplary written and verbal communication skills with strong analytical, planning and execution skills


  • Accomplished in being accountable to achieve measurable results with the ability and wherewithal to get things done through both formal and informal channels


  • Project management experience required with ability to multi-task with high volume throughput


  • Effectively articulate various perspectives and impacts of issues and project them into the future


  • Anticipates and adjusts for problems and obstacles


  • Self motivated with strong time management skills


  • ARIBA experience preferred for sourcing, contracting, and advanced Spreadsheets ability preferred 


  • Able to travel occasionally as needed to support business requirements
