Job Description


Position Overview: 

The Sales Manager is a key role in the CAS office and is responsible for providing a full range of marketing expertise, support and leadership to the CAS field office to help drive strong sales results.


Position Expectations:



  • Assist Managing Partner with the management and business operations of the agency.
  • Works with management team and individual financial professinals to develop sales concept guidance, client presentations, and special documents.
  • Become and remain well versed in the features and benefits of all Penn Mutual life and annuity products and applicable illustration software.
  • Maintain all necessary insurance licenses and the appropriate designation as a general securities principal through FINRA.
  • Support recruiting activities.
  • Develop and achieve annual recruiting and sales goals, subject to review and approval of the Home Office.
  • Assist the Managing Partner in maintaining the records of agency and offices under the Managing Partner’s supervision in accordance with the rules and regulations of and subject at all times to inspection by Penn Mutual. All such records are the property of Penn Mutual.
  • Not use any sales promotion materials or advertising relating to any of the products of Penn Mutual unless the specific item has been approved in writing by Penn Mutual.
  • Comply with Penn Mutual’s rules and regulations.
  • Not be involved in any business activity that, in the sole judgment of Penn Mutual, is competitive with or in conflict with Sales Manager’s responsibilities to Penn Mutual unless Penn Mutual gives prior written approval. Penn Mutual can revoke this approval at any time by giving notice to Manager.
  • Provide a line of communication between the Penn Mutual home office and agents associated with the agency. Agents associated with the agency shall include financial professionals and brokers recruited by Sales Manager as well as financial professionals and brokers assigned by Penn Mutual to the agency for supervision.
  • Comply with all applicable governmental requirements affecting Manager, the office staff, and financial professionals and brokers associated with Manager that relate to activities pursuant to this agreement.
  • Notify the home office of Penn Mutual immediately of circumstances of which Manager has become aware that could give rise to legal proceedings on behalf of or against Penn Mutual.
  • It is understood and agreed that Manager shall undertake the sale of any Penn Mutual product with variable accumulation and benefit provisions only where Manager is registered with FINRA as a representative of HTK. No compensation shall be payable to Manager pursuant to this agreement for the sale of any variable product absent compliance with the provisions of this subsection.
  • Not use any sales promotion materials or advertising relating to any of the products of Penn Mutual unless the specific item has been approved in writing by Penn Mutual.
  • Perform other duties of a supervisory nature that may be assigned to Sales Manager by Managing Partner.
  • Comply with Penn Mutual’s policies and procedures.
  • Must act in full compliance with all laws and regulations applicable to the business.
  • Ensures the agency and Penn Mutual brand guidelines are consistently met.
  • Supports agency community involvement and sponsorship activities.
  • Plays lead role in the development and administration of sales contests.
  • Remains current in profession and industry trends.
  • Successfully completes regulatory and job training requirements.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Business Acumen. Has a working knowledge of life and annuity products as well as a solid understanding of the financial professional role and how an agency operates. 
  • Agency Strategy. Demonstrates a solid understanding of the overall business strategy of the agency to execute on plans to help move the business forward. 
  • Relationship Building and Collaboration. Engages senior agency leadership and collaborates with others to drive marketing programs. Builds trust, credibility and demonstrates strong self-confidence and leadership qualities. 
  • Influence. Influences advisers to help drive the agency strategy, marketing campaigns and community relations initiatives. 
  • Customer Service Orientation. Possesses superior customer service skills by understanding and anticipating customer needs, and adapting approach to different customer groups and requirements. 
  • Creativity. Uses original and innovative approaches to messaging and marketing programs and events. 
  • Negotiation. Negotiates with senior leadership and vendors regarding marketing priorities, vendor agreements and resources to maintain focus on marketing strategy.

Required Experience


  • 2-5 years’ experience in a similar role.
  • Life Insurance industry experience a strong plus.
  • Solid technical understanding of life and annuity products and sales concepts, technology, related tax laws and state regulations. Knowledge of the business units and operations of Penn Mutual and the retail sales process of financial professionals and marketing campaigns.

Education/Licenses/Professional Designations:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or Marketing preferred or equivalent work experience.
