Xavier University’s Division of Student Affairs seeks qualified applicants for the new position of Assistant Director for New Student Programs. This is a twelve-month, exempt role that supports student belonging and success by providing direction for new student orientation and transition programming. The role is responsible for the planning and execution of the Manresa New Student Orientation, Spring Transfer Orientation, and some additional transition programming. The Assistant Director supervises student employees and a summer graduate intern. The role reports to the Associate Director for Leadership and Transition Programs in the Office of Student Involvement and has an anticipated start date of July 1, 2024.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

·         Coordinate, manage, and execute all aspects of the 4-day New Student Orientation program including the hiring and selection of the student team, developing content for small and large group activities, coordinating events, and facilitating the move-in experience

·         Facilitate orientation programming for transfer students

·         Design and execute new student belonging and socialization programming for first-year students

 

The Assistant Director is a member of the Office of Student Involvement, Gallagher Student Center and Commuter Services team and engages in departmental programming and decision-making. In addition to orientation and new student programs, the department facilitates campus activities and leadership programs, supports and oversees 150+ student organizations, advises the Student Government Association, manages the Gallagher Student Center, provides support for commuter and off-campus students, and coordinates processes and policies for many available campus resources.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Master’s Degree in Higher Education Administration or related field
  • 1-3 years of experience in college student affairs, student development, or related role. Graduate assistantship experience that is directly related to the role can be considered as eligible experience
  • Written and oral communication proficiency
  • Prior experience supervising college-age students
  • Experience with event planning and budget management
  • A valid driver’s license
