Post-Doctoral Fellow – Genomic Sciences and Neurodegeneration

We are looking for a highly motivated and collaborative post-doctoral fellow to work on a project being developed by the laboratories of Drs. Rita Guerreiro and José Brás, in the Center for Neurodegenerative Science at the Van Andel Institute in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

The position is available for an ambitious scientist to use or establish genome-wide genomic analyses methods to identify novel genes and variants associated with Alzheimer's disease and dementia. The laboratories employ a multidisciplinary and collaborative approach to the study of familial and sporadic neurodegenerative diseases and has large collections of samples and genomic data for different neurological diseases. The successful candidate will use these data to identify causative mutations and variants associated with disease risk that may be new targets for the development of drugs for Alzheimer's disease and associated disorders.

For this particular project we are interested in the analysis of genetics data, e.g. GWAS and WES/WGS; RNAseq and scRNA-seq; 'omics' data integration; interpretation of results from genetic data analyses; post-GWAS analyses (variant to function); big data integration and data mining approaches for genetics and genomics.

Please visit our websites for an overview of our research and labs: https://guerreirolab.vai.org/; https://braslab.vai.org/.

Description of a Successful Candidate:

Job Functions:

Van Andel Institute (VAI) provides postdoctoral training opportunities to scientists beginning their research careers. The fellowships are to help promising scientists advance their knowledge and research experience and at the same time support the research endeavors of VAI under the mentorship of a VAI Faculty member. While this project is currently funded by an NIH R01 grant, an integral part of post-doctoral training is the process of preparing a research proposal and writing a fellowship application. All VAI Postdoctoral Fellows are encouraged to apply for external funding as soon as it is practical and reasonable after hire. Receiving a fellowship award provides recognition for both the fellow and VAI.

Application Process:

Qualified applicants should apply online providing: https://bit.ly/335lxQ0
