Part Time Instructor, English Composition and/or Literature for Concurrent Enrollment Courses at High Schools- Westminster Campus


This is a part-time, temporary position with no benefits except Colorado State retirement, PERA.

Important Information



GENERAL SUMMARY -Part Time Instructor for English Composition and/or Literature for Concurrent Enrollment Courses at High Schools



  • Teach all assigned class sessions at the scheduled time and place in assigned room at local area high schools, in Fort Collins, CO and surrounding areas.
  • Create effective learning environment for students, using appropriate resources, technology, and pedagogy.
  • Teach course(s) consistent with Colorado Common Course Numbering System (CCCNS) template, appropriate course content guide and catalog descriptions.
  • Abide by CCCS policy and FRCC guidelines (such as providing a syllabus the first day of class, tracking attendance, and submitting grades by published deadlines).
  • Inform students of all course requirements, course evaluation procedures, attendance requirements, make-up examination policy, and related course procedures as required by FRCC syllabus template.
  • Maintain accurate performance and attendance records for high school and FRCC.
  • Update grades and syllabus frequently in FRCC’s online learning platform Desire2Learn (D2L).
  • Conduct a variety of assessments of student performance throughout the course, and provides students with timely and effective feedback and graded assignments (normally within a week for major assignments).
  • Participate in assessment of student learning outcomes at the course, discipline, and college level.
  • Consistently improve course quality and design, by, for example, actively participating in classroom assessment, curriculum development and related activities as a contributing team member at discipline, department, campus, college, and state levels. 
  • Communicate and collaborate with corresponding FRCC department regularly for instructional improvement and adherence to departmental standards and policies.
  • Communicate with high school counterparts as necessary.
  • Submit required reports on or before deadlines.
  • Maintain professional, ethical, and legal responsibilities, i.e., FERPA, copyrights, etc.


  • Assist students with study problems and with evaluating their potential for successful achievement in the course or discipline. Makes referrals as appropriate, i.e. for tutoring.
  • Follow/adhere to FERPA guidelines and maintain confidentiality.
  • Respond quickly to e-mail requests from FRCC department, FRCC or high school administration and/or colleagues, and students.
  • Maintain a safe and mutually respectful instructional environment and facility.
  • Refer issues that may affect the learning environment promptly to the appropriate department, including preparation and submission of incident reports to Dean of Student Affairs for inappropriate student behavior as defined by Student Code of Conduct, if necessary.
  • Check FRCC email at least twice weekly when teaching.
  • Check FRCC voice mail at least twice a week.


  • Maintain necessary educational credentials, professional skills and currency appropriate to the teaching assignment and consistent with FRCC/CCCS policy.
  • Interact sensitively with students, staff and faculty of various cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • Communicate with all colleagues and students in a timely manner.
  • Promote a positive collegiate atmosphere.

Required Skills


  • Master's degree in one of several related degrees listed below.
  • Also allowed, a Master's degree in any field, plus 18 graduate credits in one of the related degrees listed below.


Related Degrees/Disciplines:  Degree title might be listed as master's of Arts, Master's of Science, Master's of Education, Master's of Fine Arts, Master's of Liberal Studies, or a Master's of Teaching in any of the following disciplines -- English (any; for example, English, English Composition, English Education, English as a Second Language), Literacy, Rhetoric, Composition, Communication, Education, English Education, Teaching (English), Teaching (Reading), Adult Education, Teaching English as a Second Language (e.g. ELL, ESL, TESOL, TOEFL, etc.), Creative Writing, Literature (any, e.g. Comparative Literature, English Literature, American Literature), Writing (also Technical Writing), Journalish, Reading, Linguistics, Language, Liberal Studies, Liberal Arts.


Required Experience


  • Professional and/or teaching experience in English and/or Literature.
  • Teaching experience in a high school setting helpful.
