Senior Principal - Technical -1

  • Responsible for maintaining a culture of technical excellence in the Centre Block Rehabilitation project.
  • Identifies and implements technical innovation in design and delivery.
  • Works with Project Manager and Project Architect in planning and organizing project documentation and delivery activities. Assists in developing project fees, schedules, and work plans and monitoring project budgets.
  • In conjunction with the Specification Writer promotes and manages research and development into new materials, products, and technologies, ensuring an informed approach to project delivery.
  • Works with BIM Manager in HOK buildingSMART initiatives by advancing personal and office wide technical expertise by including and incorporating smart building and Revit.
  • Develops technical details to incorporate into HOK Standards and Revit.
  • Develops and maintains historical information relative to previous project problem areas and instructing technical staff as to future problems.
  • Assists teams in Construction Phase Services with disputes and claims resolution.
  • In conjunction with the Sustainable Leader promotes the incorporation of Integrated Sustainable Design solutions into projects.
  • Fosters an environment of mutual respect and trust among members.
  • Takes personal responsibility for fostering a green workplace through sustainable work practices.
  • Fosters a commitment to external and internal client service.


Client Interface

  • Works on developing a positive relationship with clients.
  • May act as HOK’s most senior Technical Advisor to clients.
  • Establishes the culture of technical commitment to internal and external clients.
  • Fosters a commitment to external and internal client service.



  • Coordinates with Technical Principal as a colleague in establishing the Technical direction on a project.
  • Oversees the effectiveness of the shared electronic documentation with project team, the client and the consultants.
  • Consults with Project Architects when minor adaptations and modifications to established construction document standards are required.
  • Provides technical oversight to teams as required.
  • Attends onsite meetings and project meeting to assist in resolving technical issues.
  • Participates in team meetings to help resolve critical project technical issues regarding consultant coordination, schedule and budget adherence.


Business Development

  • May participate in business development meetings and client interviews to present Technical expertise.

Required Skills

  • Significant talent in design, delivery, and project leadership.
  • Mastery of the concepts of Building Science required.
  • Ability to convince prospective clients that they should retain the services of the firm.
  • Evidence of strong working relationships with clients.
  • Proven ability to prioritize own work and the work of others in order to meet deadlines and provide high quality service to clients.
  • Capable of conceptual thinking as well as expediting plans through the approval process.
  • Demonstration of a polished presence and ability to move comfortably in business circles.
  • Ability to communicate well both verbally and in writing.
  • Proven ability to make presentations and facilitate discussions.
  • Thorough understanding of project work plans, schedules, staffing, and budgets.
  • Knowledge about sustainability, integrated design and LEED guidelines.
  • Thorough knowledge of buildingSMART, Building Information Modeling (BIM), and Integrated Project Delivery (IDP).
  • Proficiency in all the basic architectural technical skills including computer skills such as:
  • Proficiency in Deltek Vision preferred.
  • Proficiency in MS Project or Primavera preferred.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite required.
  • Proficiency in Newforma preferred.
  • Knowledge of Revit and BIM is required.
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD is required.
  • Basic knowledge of 3D Modeling software such as Rhino, Sketchup, preferred.


  • Bachelor’s degree in architecture or engineering or equivalent in education or experience required. Master’s degree preferred.  
  • 15 years various project experience; with at least 10 years’ experience as a Project Architect.
  • Licensed Architect or Engineer with current registration in your region required, if licensure is offered in your region.
  • NCARB registration preferred.
  • LEED accreditation or Green Associate preferred.


  • Travel will be required
