Assistant Professor of Spanish
The Department of Classics and Modern Languages at Xavier University invites applications for a Tenure Track Assistant Professor of Spanish. The position carries a 3/3 load for those who maintain an active research agenda.
We especially encourage scholars with expertise in one or more of the following areas: transatlantic studies; colonialism and decolonialism; popular culture and media; race, gender, and indigeneity in Latin America; and border studies and U.S. LatinX literatures.
Candidates should demonstrate strong interdisciplinary interests and the ability to participate effectively in interdisciplinary programs affiliated with other departments within the College of Arts and Sciences.
Enthusiasm for teaching language and culture at all levels of the curriculum and passion for teaching in a liberal arts environment are essential. The successful candidate will combine the basic qualifications of a generalist with their research specialization. Ph.D. in Spanish, Latin American Studies, Comparative Literature, or a closely related field; ABD candidates will be considered, but all requirements for the Ph.D. must be completed before start of employment. All candidates must have native or near-native fluency in both Spanish and English, and should demonstrate promise for outstanding teaching and mentoring in the areas of language, literature, and culture.
