Research Technician – Tumor Microenvironment and Metastasis


Van Andel Institute (VAI), a leading independent biomedical research facility, is dedicated to determining the epigenetic, genetic, molecular and cellular origins of cancer, Parkinson’s and other diseases, and translating those findings into effective therapies. The Institute is home to more than 300 scientists and support staff that work in on-site laboratories and in collaborative partnerships that span the globe.


Dr. Xiaohong Li, Ph.D. is seeking to hire a full-time Research Technician to play in part of the general lab works, including, but not limited on mouse lines maintaining such as genotyping, recording and ordering, making sure general lab activities following institutional regulations, commutations between lab and other departments. In addition, you will work closely with post-doc or student to assist their projects until you can and willing to work independently on your own project.


The Li Laboratory is committed to understanding tumor microenvironment, specifically, the bones, effects on bone metastases, drug resistance, and tumor dormancy. We focus on breast, lung, and prostate cancers. Our long-term is to target the tumor microenvironment to better prevention and treatment of metastases.


In this role, you will be responsible for the following tasks:


  • Prepare biological and chemical reagents and solutions
  • Conduct and record all laboratory activities in accordance with the laboratory quality management program
  • Maintain mouse lines
  • Place laboratory general ordering
  • Assist post-doc and other senior staff in their projects


You will possess a Bachelor’s degree in biological sciences, focusing on biochemistry, molecular and cell biology and have 5 years of hands on bench experience. We are ideally looking for people with the following:
