The Nashville Shared Services Center is looking for a Junior Staff Accountant to join the Business Unit close accounting staff. This is an entry-level position and will assist in the on-going transition of work from facilities across the company to the center and off shore accounting facilities.

Position Summary

 

This position is responsible for ensuring the accurate and timely processing of postage, freight and special handling transactions in support of daily postage accounting and other month end accounting processes. Processes are including, but not limited to; processing transactions in the SAP GL system and various other plant sub-ledger systems, account reconciliation, problem solving, process improvement, financial analysis and support of the month end closing process. Position will service various operating units by performing full cycle processing duties in accordance with established policies and procedures. This position requires the candidate to work well in a team environment with excellent communication skills across multiple levels.

 

Responsibilities

 

  • Perform data entry duties for a variety of transaction types
  • Ensure postage and freight is processed in accordance with established guidelines
  • Partner with internal department plant liaison to resolve discrepancies
  • Enter postage and freight into sub-ledger systems
  • Develop journal entries and perform analysis in key accounting areas for domestic platform
  • Work with plants to resolve issues related to assigned month end tasks and reconciliations
  • Reconcile key accounts and maintain internal controls
  • Meet monthly, quarterly and annual accounting close deadlines
  • Assist in the preparation of  basic financial, operational and analytical reports
  • Field BU questions regarding account matters
  • Identify and frequently implement ideas and practices to improve process and/or accuracy

Required Skills

  • B.S. in Accounting (preferred) or Finance
  • 0-2 years overall experience in Accounting or Finance required
  • Knowledge of GAAP and proficient with fundamental accounting concepts and procedures
  • Experience in system troubleshooting and delivering solutions to produce a desired output
  • Strong computer skills with knowledge of Excel required to improve and streamline internal processing and reporting
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent problem solving, communication, interpersonal, analytical, and time management skills required
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of general ledger setup and processing routines (i.e., journal processing, monthly/annual closing activities, allocations, etc)
  • Ability to perform account reconciliations
  • Detail oriented
  • Ability to work well with others in a team environment
  • Good problem solving and process improvement skills
