Human Geography is the discipline based on analyzing the interconnections between people and places, including the spatial and temporal patterns of human activities in the context of the environment. Human Geographers develop and implement the processes to incorporate human geography data and analysis in order to expand the understanding of the human dimension impacting intelligence issues. They are a key component to NGA integrated work teams by promoting and enabling greater understanding and awareness of the cultural, linguistic, and human geography context within our foundational content.

The Human Geographer/Regional Analyst shall provide direct support to GEOINT analysts engaged in in-depth GEOINT production, research, and ad-hoc projects, using multiple computer databases and special-source libraries. Human Geographers will use Geospatial Information Systems (GIS) technical skills, language skills, and potentially in-country experience to collect, analyze, and disseminate human geography context vital to NGA customers. Geospatial information from all available sources and in all formats shall be identified, obtained, and exploited for all available “nuggets” of information.


Required Skills


Required Skills:

  • Understanding of human geography themes, regional knowledge, and culture for central Asia region and countries. Ability to provide current, relevant human geography and context analysis for the region.
  • Experience with digital cartography, geographic databases, Geographical Information Systems (GIS), cartographic and geospatial production techniques, remote sensing, photogrammetry, and digital data formats
  • Knowledge and experience with cross-platform, commercial and government exploitation tools such as (not limited to): NES, Trident, M3, PALANTIR, RemoteView, CIRAS, Voyager, RAS, Map Service Center catalog, COLISEUM, GEMINI, ArcMap, ArcView, ERDAS IMAGINE, MapInfo, FoxPro, Arc INFO, Arc IMS, Dynamo, GeoMedia Professional
  • Demonstrated skills using e-mail and common office software including MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and graphic design skills
  • Demonstrated participation in and/or directing the activities of highly skilled technical and analytical teams responsible for developing solutions to highly complex analytical/intelligence problems
  • Demonstrated oral and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated customer support skills
  • Understanding of NGA’s Geospatial Policies like International Policy, Co-Production, and dissemination of data
  • Experience collaborating effectively with NGA regional analysts, geospatial analysts, imagery analysts, military officers, cartographers, intelligence analysts, engineers, technicians, managers, vendors, or other customers
  • Knowledge gained through cartographic experience, regional accounts, imagery tasks, program management, and/or geospatial tasks


Desired Skills:

  • Be a self-starter, be able to work alone, yet be able to share information with team members and customers in a timely manner

Required Experience


  • 11-20 years experience; Bachelor’s degree in a field related to the support services may count for up to four years of this experience; A master’s degree in a field related to the support services may count for up to two additional years of this experience


  • Must have an active TS/SCI & be willing to obtain a CI Poly
