Are you looking for the opportunity of a lifetime? Are you interested in spending next spring or summer at one of the most beautiful sites in America - Yellowstone National Park? STGi is looking to hire a Mental Health Counselor to cover the STGi clinics at Yellowstone National Park.  

 

This description applies to a PRN/Part-Time position that is primarily remote but will support on-site work throughout the year periodically in one of the three medical clinics in Yellowstone National Park. The clinics are located at Old Faithful, Lake Village and Mammoth Hot Springs. Lake and Old Faithful, our seasonal facilities, open from the beginning of May, and are in operation until the end of September each year. The Old Faithful and Lake Village clinics provide urgent and emergency care as well as some primary care for local residents and employees. A wide age range of patients with diverse injuries and illnesses are seen. Additionally, the Mammoth clinic functions as a primary care home for residents in the area and is staffed year-round by a physician. During the summer season, additional medical staff are brought in to support the increase in staff and visitors to the park. Expect the primary hours allocated for the year to be between peak season. Limited point-of-service lab and x-ray are available at all three facilities.  

 

The National Park Service provides EMS services. A STGi physician team consisting of the Mammoth Clinic physician, Yellowstone National Park Medical Director and STGi's Corporate Medical Director, provides mid-level provider oversight. The Mental Health Counselor will be an employee of STGi. Under STGi, the Mental Health Counselor will assist in providing all aspects of behavioral health services to Yellowstone National Park. This includes participation in the billing process as delineated by STGi Financial remuneration, administrative and operational services are provided by STGi. The employee policies of STGi apply to the Mental Health Counselor and full compliance is expected. 

 

The Yellowstone National Park Mental Health Counselor may collaborate with the Primary Care office in Mammoth, supporting local residents, urgent visits, and employees of the park or vendors. Additional support may be provided to NPS EMS as needed/directed in developing transport criteria.  

 

Responsibilities: 

  • Providing group and individual therapy sessions as needed when on-site 
  • Providing specific hours for services, scheduled out for certain seasonal increases in personnel 
  • Potential for on-call needs assessments determining transport to nearest facility for intervention 
  • Building the behavioral health network with the Clinic Manager, Medical Director and contract manager 
  • Telehealth mental health services with promotion of these services to the Yellowstone community 
  • On-site at Yellowstone National Park (in person) at least quarterly and provide telehealth mental health as scheduled during clinic hours  
  • At a minimum, travel to the clinic once a month and do the following when at each clinic to promote mental health services: meet  with  local  businesses,  agencies,  and  organizations  through  various  means, including, but not limited to, human resources departments and staff meetings; meet  with  local  groups  and  committees,  including,  but  not  limited  to,  the Yellowstone  Chamber  of  Commerce  and  the  Yellowstone  Health  and  Wellness Committee; look  for  additional  opportunities  to  provide  outreach  and  advertise  available services to the local community, including mental health telehealth and in person consults 
  • In coordination with Primary Care, create, promote, and implement a quarterly community health education event that covers mental health and health behavior topics by a licensed, as well as promote Contractor programs and services.  
  • Assist in proactively marketing health services including mental health services through a variety of electronic and print methods, including, but not limited to, newsletters, flyers, and advertisements in the local Yellowstone paper in accordance with Part 5, C.2 of the contracts Performance Work Statement.  
  • Promotion of telehealth mental health services must be incorporated into the STGi’s marketing plan and annual community meeting.  
  • STGi is recognized to not be a crisis mental health agency; however, the Mental Health Counselor can facilitate linking Yellowstone employers with community and other resources that provide crisis intervention.  
  • Creates a master treatment plan and oversees field guides in their implementation of the treatment plan. 
  • Identify the criteria necessary for parents and referral sources to recommend appropriate aftercare treatment. 
  • Create a summary of treatment including aftercare recommendations to help assist in the implementation of the treatment plan. 
  • Attends weekly bi-monthly clinical meeting with potential for participation on the weekend call rotation 
  • Provide high quality, compassionate and ethical direct to consumer mental health therapy to clients 
  • Complete clinical documentation 
  • Maintain required client contact 
  • Maintain good standing with the appropriate professional board entities 
  • Complete and maintain all required continuing education requirements for specific licensure and specializations 
  • Stay current with updated research and best practices 
  • Be aware of community referral sources and refer when necessary 
  • Maintain up to date case files within electronic health record (EHR) system; and, 
  • Maintain contact with and consulting with third parties and collateral contacts when appropriate

Certifications/ Qualifications: 

 

  • Must be a Psychologist, LCSW, LICSW, LPC, LPCC, LMHC, LMFT or LCMC licensed in WY (or obtained within 3 months of hire). 
  • Minimum of (2) years’ experience with inpatient, outpatient, and/or mental health care preferable in a rural health program setting. 
  • Must have direct clinical and case management experience, group leadership experience. 
  • Strong clinical and interpersonal skills, ability to lead and direct the work of others, and excellent written and verbal communication skills. Intermediate level PC skills required. 
  • Working knowledge of family systems and their impact on mental health within the family 
  • Skill in applying varied interventions with individuals/families in crisis 
  • Skill in working with a variety of cultures 
  • Skill in working independently and implementing time management strategies 
  • Ability to provide necessary self-care and demonstrate appropriate professional boundaries and behavior 
  • Awareness of personal strengths and limitations 

 

Education Requirements: 

 

  • Master’s Degree in Social Work, Psychology, Counseling, or a related field, or Ph.D. or PsyD. in Psychology from an accredited college or university.
